Sweeeeeet!!! Great stuff man :) I can't wait till we get these bad boys animated.

Note to Everyone: That's a temp skin, NOT the finished skin.

Looks great, but can we keep the Dragonlance mod updates in one or two threads?  Like, one for graphics updates and one for general discussion.

I'm highly anticipating this mod... I need more fantasy in my fantasy TBS!

Hmm, nope, multiple threads :) exposure, it's a good thing.

I wish I could say your anticipation would soon be over my friend but we're still looking at anywhere between 6 months to maybe even a year out. There's a LOT of changes going into the base game between now and the second expansion and lots of other patches in between as well, some of which may or may not break mods. Even now we're constantly making content, but, we can't start any of the core coding for the mod until we know the XML and API's won't be in a state of "flux" and I'm also having problems getting ahold of our main coder right now.

Great job, really pleased to see this. Can't wait until we get things like this fully implemented. I just hope that Elemental continues to develop in a way that supports your hard work.

However I would also ask that we keep each mod to one or two threads...I'm excited about what you guys are doing, but this isn't the Dragonlance forum ;)

My thoughts exactly, Goon.  There's exposure and there's saturation...

@Raven

Yeah, I know how much time and work is required for large modding projects.  Just bear in mind that 90% of them break up before release.  Stick with it and don't become one of those!  I've been involved in a couple of those projects, and was always the last man standing, and it sucks.  Seems like you've got an eager group though.  Just don't push development too fast and burn out. That's always the killer.

I like the model but.... it looks like a smiling cow :S. I think a minotaur has to look like a fierce warrior, not a nice bull. But apart from this little issue, a really nice model!

I second this, especially if RavenX is talking about a year to a full release of the mod. I personally have little interest in the mod itself but all large scale mods are boons to a mod community as it gives smaller guys a lot to look at and a lot to borrow ;)

Heh, the only reason it looks like "saturation" is because I just happened to post the logo in the same day and then Henry started a new thread to show off him getting the model in game. If not for that I don't think we'd EVER see two Dragonlance threads in the same day. I was mostly joking with my first reply..lol.

Looks great Henry.

Hey, I got a sweater just like that last Christmas from Aunty May. LOL :D

While this is true and I tend to agree, I think some of you are making a mountain out of a molehill. How many threads do we have on the community elf race? I'm counting 2 currently, and lets not forget this is a community project as well since it will be released in stand alone pieces so people can add the individual races if they like. I mean really, 2 whole threads with the word "Dragonlance" in the title and people freak out?

We've got a Dedicated Team that does a lot for the community. I myself just finished skinning for 3 hours for the Elf community project so they could have decent looking hair. There are lots of threads on lots of topics and many of them say the same thing. Henry was counting on me making a post earlier to show off the logo and I really don't see the fuss over two threads with the same word in the title when both threads were about two totally separate things though aspects of the same project.

In reality, I'm lucky if I post ONE update a MONTH just to let people here know the project is still going. There's enough Core Team Members to make sure this project follows through until release. As with many long term projects here though a Lot of what we can do depends heavily on how fast Stardock moves on some aspects. How many other major mods in the works have made progress getting models and such in game? It was in fact Civfreak, a Dragonlance Team member, who's made the largest strides (with Heavenfall too of course) in getting models and animations in game.

Of course, we do have our own forums thanks to Cervo and THAT IS where the most of our future updates will go. Some people should do what I do. When I see a thread with something in the title I'm not interested in, I just don't click on it....shocking I know. I've modded forums much larger than this professionally in my day. If there's any old school UO players they can tell you how busy the official forums were back when UO was in full swing. The traffic there and number of duplicate threads make the Elemental forums look dead in comparison.

I have to agree with Raven_X... the mod forum is hardly drowning in threads.

PS. The elf race mod has only one thread. The other is a stand-alone thread, not affiliated. =)

Well, I am done, I will only post any mod realted stuff over on Cervo's  board I guess.

I honest to God can't believe that two whole posts in about- what?  two months?- and now we are getting accused of making the forums the Dragonlance forums.  Un-damn-believable.  And, spot on Raven, you'd think people would have the ability to just not read something that they didn't want to read.  Well, no worries, like I said, I don't want, nor do I need, the hassle and I will stop posting anything mod related here.

As for you Mr. John Hughes, what?  I should have made one of those rainbow colored ones that I always seemed to get from my grandparents every year.  :)  Every Christmas... an ugly sweater.  I think it's a marketing scam.

I don't think you guys should stop posting because one or two people don't want to read about the Dragonlance mod (even though they do anyways). Like Heavenfall said, the Mod forum isnt exactly getting posts every minute anyways. And it was still cool seeing someone get a model into the game. Even if you don't like/aren't interested in the mod it's going into, you can at least appreciate what was done.

Isn't that achieved by giving the original posts update bumps?  That puts them at the top again...

@Zub

I'm not trolling, and I'm not the only one that shares this opinion--it's been said byh multiple people in this thread and on the SD IRC.  If it was my desire to troll these boards, this would probably be the most pathetic and passive-aggressive attempt in the history of the internet.

"Ahem.  Dear Stardock boards, you are being trolled!  It is my intention to politely state my opinions on this board for the sole purpose of inciting riotous behaviors.  You're so gonna wish I would stop, this is gonna be epic lulz."

Its a mods forum, they are posting about mods ... where is the problem again?

It's all good Malloreon.

Just let it go guys. With the pics gone the thread can die. Morgan will posting updates on our Official Forums except for when I do monthly or bi-mmonthly updates here.

I thought the main reason for using one thread is so it is easier for us to keep up with what you guys are doing. You sure you guys are taking the comments the right way, or am I taking them the wrong way? Either way, if Morgan took his ball home that quick, there was little chance of the project having a long life on this forum, someone would have criticized the project down the line and BAM Morgan would have been gone.

Either way, the Dragonlance mod seems like an ambitious, amazing project and I wish you guys the best of luck!

RavenX, I will happily admit when I am wrong, and looking back in this forum, you were right that there were only a hand full of threads with Dragon Lance in the title. That said, I think sometimes it is hard to tell since virtually every time you post you mention your dragon lance mod, and while I am personally excited to see a team working hard on such an ambitious project, I always find it odd that you mention so frequently a mod that is still a WIP. I just wish you would pimp the mods you have actually developed, like undead rising, instead of one that is so far out.

Most of the dragon lance team seems to have moved to an alternate forum. I also find it funny that Morgan so quickly took down his post after only a few of us asked nicely that they try and consolidate their posts to make it easier for those who are interested to really see the big picture. As I said before, while I may not personally have any interest in a dragon lance mod, a mod of that size can only be a boon to the community.

I kinda wish the Stardock forums were laid out like Talesworld (Mount and Blade) in relation to mods, so the dragonlance team would have their own sub forum with stickies and everything.

I do mention it quite a bit in threads where the info in the thread would be relevant or Useful To The Mod, like when I see a weapon that would look good in it. I'm sure if you search my username and pull up the last 10 posts I've made, either threads or replies, you'll find that out of those ten I mentioned it maybe twice. Saying I mention it in every post I make is by far an exaggeration my friend.

As for my other mods, they are being worked on, almost nightly, and are mostly short term projects intended to teach us the steps necessary for working our way up to the Dragonlance Mod. Hell, even Frogboy wants to see the Dragonlance Mod and I plan on hiding a personal little Easter Egg in it just for him. I definitely wouldn't say the other Team members have moved on. They're still here, and post quite often. In reality, the boards have slowed down quite a bit in general. I've noticed this updating the Ideas List Thread I manage. In the last few nights we're lucky if we've gotten 5 or 6 new ideas posts when only a week ago I was adding 15 or 20 a day.

Still, I think you're exaggerating quite a bit when saying I mention it in every post. I've been a professional moderator before and I know most of the moderators here and not one of them has EVER accused me of spamming or trolling, because I don't. Over-all though lately even the mood here in the mods forums has been changing and it looks to me like a lot of posts are people still causing drama and bullshit in threads where they're not wanted (I don't mean your post here Kenata). Every day that passes fewer and fewer mature posters stick around here and I'm starting to see why.

Bottom line, there are still a lot of us here who enjoy modding, and we enjoy talking about those mods and helping each others work, and in the process those mods get named. Like when I saw a weapons mod on here a few days ago and I asked the creator in my reply if he wouldn't mind if I included some of the weapons in the Dragonlance Mod. Obviously I needed to say the name of it to tell him what I wanted to include it in didn't I? Maybe I'm just so popular people are reading WAY Too Much into what I say *shrugs*. Either way, we'll keep working, and keep modding, and keep not taking part in discussions that just lead to useless bullshit like this thread has become.

Forum activity will pick back up and it will be more positive. Right now a lot of us are planning waiting for 1.10 just in case the game is drastically changed before then.

I did not mean to accuse you of anything.  It's simply easier to read and understand how the mod is developing if you just bump the thread with updates.  It's a user-friendliness issue, not a personal attack.  With many different threads it becomes impossible to really see what's happening--and that is what I'm interested in.  It's just easier for people to understand.

I apologize if I offended you.  I have crotchety tendencies, and often I offend or confuse people by being direct and exact with what I speak.  I speak my mind definitively and people are not used to that.  Most people prefer to state their mind in passive ways, as suggestions, or just hint at what they want to say.

Again, good luck on the mod.  And don't burn yourself out.  Go at a slow pace or otherwise things will explode, at least in my experience.  People get very excited and push hard for the goals every night and then after a month or two of hard labour they lose interest or willpower.  I like the ambition and scope of the mod and wish you the best with its development.

I can see why you would think that with what happened to the thread, but you couldn't be more wrong about Morgan. Morgan (Admiral) is one of my Most Dedicated Team members. That's why I made him Head Modeler. He took down the pics because he was fed up with the drama/whining and I don't really blame him. He's completely and %100 Dedicated to the Mod, just as much as I am, and he hasn't even read Dragonlance. He does what he does for the enjoyment modeling brings him. He and Civfreak have made Great Leaps and Bounds getting models in game and when Stardock gives us the rest of the tools we need to get animations in he'll be on the front lines getting those in game as well. He's not going anywhere or quitting the mod.

No worries Hairrorist, you didn't offend me at all. It's all good man.

Through-out the development of the Mod I've started multiple threads on Different Facets of the game-play, which is why I do multiple threads because not each thread covers the same topic. Take these two threads for instance:

Part 1: https://forums.elementalgame.com/379988

Part 2: https://forums.elementalgame.com/387596

Those are two separate posts covering two separate topics. In order to get feedback on different aspects of game-play it is indeed necessary to do multiple threads. Over the coarse of development, just as Frogboy does with his Dev Journals, with the Mod it will be necessary to get feedback from the fans and judge what it is they want to see in a Dragonlance Mod and the only way to do that is to start posts and ask the fans what they want. It's a part of any game's development process as any developer will tell you. It's also very useful from our end to get feedback on what kinds of changes the community wants.

The game-play in the mod will be a Lot Different than the vanilla game. Take the strategic map for instance. In the Mod players will not be building cities as they do now. All the major cities will already be in game at the start. Each of the major cities will control a "province" on the map. Conquering the city, either through warfare or through diplomacy, will conquer the province. Once a player controls a province they have access to that provinces resources and can create the types of units that province produces. Take for example the Minotaur nations of Mithas and Kothas. Once the player controls one of them they can draft and create the three planned types of units the minotaurs have. This is how it will work for the other races and provinces as well, plus there will be specific structures like the "Tower of High Sorcery of Wayreth" they will have unique units, spells, and abilities that are granted by controlling the tower. There are many places in the Mod that will grant unique abilities, not just the Towers of High Sorcery. There are even items that will grant certain powers, like the "Hammer of Kharas" which will allow the faction who has it to make the fabled Dragonlances. There are "Dragon Orbs" which when mastered grants the user power over Dragons. Different Orbs will grant different uses. One may control Dragons completely, while another may drive any Dragon that comes near it insane causing them to attack their own allies, while yet another may flat out kill any Dragon the user wishes to target.

We require feedback on all these as the time comes to make them and implement them in game, and to get that feedback, we Will have Discussions about them here. While we do have our own forums on Cervo's most awesome Elemental Fan site, those forums are more for us to talk to each other as I can't always get ahold of everyone when I need to through Yahoo alone. When we want feedback though, we have to go where the fans are, where the people who play Elemental are, and that's Here, especially if I want feedback from the Elemental Devs. I can't very well expect Frogboy and Boogiebac to go there and leave comments. If you want info from Elemental Devs and Players, THIS is the place to go, and quite frankly the Mod forums can only benefit by having more traffic on them as potential customers come here, see the different mods that are done and being worked on, and may decide to buy Elemental so they can play one of those mods. From talking to other Dragonlance Fans I already know there are hundreds (maybe Thousands) of people out there just like me who have been waiting for YEARS for a good Dragonlance game to be made. Since that hasn't happened and to my knowledge there aren't any major companies making a Dragonlance game, this Mod will be their best hope for a Grand Strategy game in the world of Dragonlance (Krynn).

When the time comes that I go to the official Wizards of the Coast Dragonlance forums to announce that the Mod for Elemental is nearing completion I'm pretty sure there will be a Lot of people who will buy Elemental just to be able to play the Mod, just as many people have bought Civ 4 solely to be able to play Fall From Heaven. In almost every Civ discussion I've seen here or on other forums there has Always been someone who has said they bought the game just to be able to play the Mod, and if the Dragonlance Mod comes out with the vision I have in my mind of how I want it, the Dragonlance Community will be tremendously happy and excited and that can only prove to be a boon to Elemental as a whole.
