No, err, "anything" problem

This only started today. For some reason, whenever I load up Sins, the planets do not load with it. Even in the start menu (where there is a planet in the background as wallpaper), no planets appear. It's just nothing. No stars in the distance, no light - nothing. I didn't think much of it at first, but in game, things don't appear there either, no ships, no stars, no planets, nothing but icons. I have no idea what is causing this, and I even reinstalled it to try and fix it, though to no avail.

For what it's worth (I don't think this had any impact, seeing as I got rid of it before I enabled it) I had downloaded a planet texture mod earlier, although I didn't care enough to enable it. I'm just throwing that out because I'm really at a loss here. Can anyone help?

I put the mod in the mod folder with the rest, but I didn't enable it. I'm familiar with mods, so 'm pretty positive that wasn't the issue. I was just hoping throwing that out would be of some help, since I was reluctant to ask stardock. They just got done helping me not two days ago, so I was hoping for help from the community. Kinda feel like I'm bugging them, but I guess there's no other choice.

Thanks anyways.

Thanks man. I sent a ticket, but in the meantime (since it may be a while until they get back to me) does anyone else have any useful advice or theories? I'm really open to anything.

I'm about to turn in for the night (came back to check any responses), but I can get you a screen shot of the main menu and in-game pretty quick, though.

Alright, here's the line-up.

Here is the Main Menu, and as you can see, for some reason, no background of space, planets or stars appear. It's just black.

This is the planet (or rather, lack there of) zoomed up all the way.

A second planet shot, moved to show it's position in relation to the main system star. Still nothing.

This is a zoom up on two scout ships (forget what Advent calls them) in the front, and a frigate and capital ship factory both directly behind them. All invisible.

Zoomed out shot of the entire system. As you can see, the icons are still working fine and well, as are the menu features, mods, options, and other aspects. I can, for what it's worth, still click stuff, and hear the response sounds you get for clicking them. However, as you can again see, even the space "wallpaper" with the teeny-tiny stars are gone. It's just this big nothingness.

Hope this helps.

have you tried a verify installation in impulse?, (btw to do this you need to hold the shift key down when you right-mouse click on your diplomacy/entrenchment/sins to get the menu with the verify instalation)

and do any other games missbehave?

3d engine being toasty while the icons display, that's impressive.

Did you perchance install new drivers?

I verified (didn't know I could do that), but it didn't fix it. And this doesn't affect any other game of mine. Haven't installed any new hardware of any kind. I did recently try updating the video card, but that didn't work either. I still really do appreciate all the helpful suggestions.

typhylo, is the problem only in diplomacy or is it in entrenchment  & vanilla sins as well?

I believe it affects Sins and the expansions as a whole. I have only tested it with Diplomacy, then Entrenchment (to see if it was still there, which it was), so I assumed it would be on vanilla Sins too.

and what changes were made to the computer from when it was working  and the problem happened?

Use driver sweeper to clean up your video drivers and reinstall them fresh.  I'd say go ahead and redo DirectX too..
