Thinking Outside the Box

For a while now I've been something of a malcontent when it comes to my OS. I complained that the Windows interface was boring, the Luna interface takes up too much space, the OSX interface, though I quite like it now, I originally described as a "candy nightmare". Now that I have ObjectDesktop, I am empowered to right all the wrongs of OS visual design. So I got to thinking, though I'm pretty much restricted in the nature of the controls, what would I have done differently in designing any of these interfaces? Search my mind as I might, the only things I can come up with are that it must give me maximum workspace (you can never have enough workspace), and of course it must be pretty like a pony. For several weeks I've been twiddling my thumbs over this little dilemma, basically pondering what I may have done differently, and I must confess, I'm completely stumped. It's not that I don't have the skills as an artist to make an attractive interface, but I just can't come up with anything that satisfies me, I simply can't visualize it. My current OSX theme is going to wear thin for me in a couple of weeks, and I feel that I should try to put something together before this happens, but my mind is blank. The only skins I've really taken a liking to have been OS ports (QNX, OSX), but I can't help the feeling that it could be better. Just wanted to vent my frustrations, thanks for reading.

As with LiteSTEP....you just keep on modifying and adapting...until it's closer to your personal ideal.....you know, some people like the standard OS interface....I just haven't actually ever met one who 'really' did...

I have, mind you, it was the same person who thought that web design and programming was "point and click", and couldn't understand why a company shouldn't use a web page made in publisher exclusively from MS clipart, and I therefore hold this person's opinion in extremely low regard. I just like things to be pretty, and it gives me a kick when my friends ask what OS I am running.

I am surrounded by idiots who are happy with Uncle Bill's sorry excuse for an interface and think I am the mad man for changing that. Ofcourse, they're all electrotechnical engineers, so their lack of aesthetics doesn't surprise me.

I can think out of the box, but unfortunately my ideas are not possible yet.

Wouldn't it be great if people would post more screenshots to show other ways of using their computers?

Well, there is this video of that man throwing around his screen. That's one way of using your machine.
