manual install?

is there some way to manually install elemental? I decided to do a clean install (after I couldn't get ranged weapons to work right no matter that patch/mod I tried to use) but the installer on the disk sucks ass! it takes hours to install the game, at first I was like "oh well" but then I noticed that it's just unpacking zips. sure enough when I looked, the games files are just compressed and oh, look 7zip is sitting right there.

game installer = hours.

7zip = 10 freaking minutes!

oh, and the game runs fine from the .exe in the stardock\elemental directory. I can live without system registration entries and having to manually create a desktop shortcut but I do need the patches. impulse isn't acknowledging the game files and tries to download the whole damned thing without first checking to see what files are present (same thing with the installer, I checked to so what it would do when I ran it after manually unziping the files).

I'm in a rural location so: no, downloading if from impulse isn't a viable option as it would just take longer than the installer.

is there some way I can tell impulse to check for existing game files or something?

Using the detect application option in the in Impulse should get it to build the registry entries if you have the game files all in place.

k, I ended up saying hell with it and using the installer on the disk but I'll keep that in mind if I have to do this again. it took about an hour and then some for the disk to install and during the whole thing I could hear my dvd drive going ballistic with the lens twitching allover the place, during the 7-zip unpack it didn't make a sound.

it makes me think that the problem is that you have the installer AND the compressed file being accessed from the disk, so the lens is twitching back and forth between the two trying to run them both at the same time and it's dragging out the process. probably better if you have the installer temporarily install it's self on the hard drive so the DvD drive can focus on reading the compressed file, then uninstall the installer after it's done.

not much that can be done about it now that the disks have been printed but it might be something to keep in mind for the next batch of disks you print / next game released.
