Trade Ability and Caravans (Is this happening to anyone else?)

Feedback please?

 

So, I work my way through the research tree and pick up the trade skill early in the game...

I go on to build caravans with the skill...everything seems fine, then somewhere between turn 90 and 150 my trade skill just goes away. It still shows up in my completed technology tree, but none of my cities can create caravans anymore (because the game no longer thinks I have the trade skill apparently). The only thing that fixes this is a complete uninstall/reinstall of the game.

I did not have this problem before patch 1.06/1.07.

 

Has this happened to you?

You can only build one caravan per city, period.

Understood...

When I said that none of my cities could build caravans, I was trying to say that the caravan unit icon is "greyed-out" in all cities...even the ones that never built a caravan before.

When I look in the resources required legend at the bottom of the build unit box, a "need trade" indicator is highlighted. This occurs suddenly, even in new cities despite the fact that I had previously been able to build the units.

When this problem first appeared I deleted my game and began anew.

This has happened 3 times so far. Reloading the game seems to make the problem go away (even in a saved game, which seems to imply a problem with the game engine developing as I play...), though the problem can re-emerge in a saved game even after reinstall. Could this be another facet of "memory leak"?

Wow, that's a new one on me.  If you go to the research window and click on the completed button, does it still show Trade as a completed tech?  If you have a saved game that shows this the developers would probably like to take a look at it.

Yes, if you're losing access to trade after researching it, please upload a save demonstrating that behavior to drop.io and link it here.

I've had it happen to a few conquered cities, but never to my empire as a whole.

Actually I've had the opposite problem with conquered cities -- they're allowing me to build and use multiple caravans!

Empires have an easily researched tech that allows you to build 2 caravans per town, is this perhaps what you've seen?

Hail Gent....happy newcomer to the game and the forum.

 

I'm wondering...how do I get to produce a caravan from my first 2 towns??  My first one is kinda big and has a merchant tile built...why can't I build a caravan already? 2nd is smaller but coming up and I want to set up a "trade route" between the 2.

 

I am playing my first campaign game btw so have only visited the first 2 "allies" at this point.  Any help is appreciated.

 

I realize this is still a work in progress ...will probably be an amazing thing when it comes to fruition...but yikes on the UI (and I have played a LOT of games heh).
