Automatically adjusting tax rates

Are updates still being put out for GCII?  Found this (slightly edited) old post I wrote years back and thought it worthy of getting some attention outside of the massive thread it was buried in.  Assuming there's still the occasional update going out anyway.

It'd be nice to have an 'auto tax' feature that will optimize your tax level based on a target (average) approval level. I mess with that tax slider alot, and it does get old. Alternatively, some people may want to automate it in reverse as well, and select a target income level (at least +1, break even, etc.) and simply keep an eye on approval level.

The downside of this is you'll have to keep an eye on your approval level or treasury, but glancing down at the bottom left of the screen is a lot easier than adjusting that slider all the time.

Bottom line is, nobody really cares about what some arbitrary "tax rate" number is, and adjusting it isn't any fun.  Players only care about one of two types of end results: income or approval ratings... that's about it.

Average approval is only useful for elections.  Minimum approval is what is helpful for population growth purposes.

I can't imagine a target income level being useful.  We care about income, but only in the sense that it's at the maximum with respect to our target approval, so target approval should be sufficient.

Alas, this is probably too much to expect to be added to GC2 at this late stage, and even if it were added, the likelihood is it would only be added to the most recent expansion, Twilight of the Arnor, leaving Dread Lords and Dark Avatar players without it.

You can't autoadjust in the game, but you can at least open the Colony List and sort by minimum approval, and if you're decently familiar with the morale math, you ought to be able to find your optimal tax rate without too much hassle.  It's how I do it, anyway.
