On the Dynasty System

One of the things I've liked so far in Elemental has been the dynasty system.  It's a neat feature that really humanizes the sovereign for me, and gives a sense of the passing of time.  I remember playing games like Civilization, and being Genghis Khan or Napoleon, etc., for the entire game, some ageless god form of the historical figure.  Watching characters be born, come of age, be placed in succession for the throne, etc., was a really nice touch.  It got me to thinking about what others have thought about it, or how it might have affected their gameplay.

Here are some of mine:

I won't marry off my daughter to another kingdom cause all of the eligible bachelors have dumb sounding names XD

I felt bad when my first son died on a quest, whereas I didn't feel as much if a nameless troop died.

If I get enough gold I'll take one of my kids on a shopping spree with the kingdom's treasury and give them all the best stuff from the item shops.  The citizens may just have to skip a few meals while I make the money back ^_^

I found myself having favorite kids and letting the other ones stay inside cities while the cooler ones got all the xp and loot hehe.  That might be kind of mean but I'm playing an evil character anyway.

If I can't think of a name for a new city I'll name it after one of the kids.

likewise experience with me -

my first born always travels with daddy :D and earns the fat xp and loot -

while the others are doomed to be troop ferriers and new settlement guardians :D

...now im worried that 1st born might suddenly go....hey...why dont i just kill daddy and become queen! O.o and she could! cause daddy only has 26 health :D one quick bolt of lightning and he is toast :D

the game would be.....interesting if kids actually did that :D but damn..i would never level one up :D

I /love/ the Dynasty system but it's so underused.  I wish the ages matched, and I wish the 'line to the throne' was doable.  It would detach from the 'you are the monarch' thing but I'd love to see my son or grandson take the throne, or my grandson ruling one of the other factions.  Also random events should pop up, divorces, proposals, wars because of the dynasty system.  It needs to be fixed but it has so much potential.

And my fourth kid was named Janusk after my advisor was killed, but he'd married and had a daughter who joined the other faction, I married her back into the family and when Janusk's grandson joined us I was very very happy.

There's something there, but it can be used so much better.

question can you only marry them off to other factions ? you can for instance marry them off to your great warrior general ?

You can only marry them to other factions I think. Atleast I haven't found a way otherwise.

I tend to not marry off my daughters cause then you lost a unit, while if you marry a son then you gain the daughter of another faction. Unless one of my daughters turns out really ugly, then it's byebye.

I like the dynasty system, but it's sad that by the time you get any children to join you the game has become pretty much a grindfest where you can kill anything without too much effort

Well hopfully with changes to the AI and to the game in general, the grindfest won't be as bad.

However, I would like to see some things with the dynasty system.

I would love for the first born to take over if the soverign dies, I would love to see my kids who may be bad eggs, and turn against me and take a city.  I would love for above average soldiers to rise in ranks to the point of becoming a hero able t marry into the royal family...

I would like to see some quests and diplomatic options based off what the children do.

I was forced to kill off my character's grandson--but after some time, he became a wandering hero and I was thrilled to recruit him!  Although he was rather expensive, but he had over 250 essence

I'd like to see those things as well.

And maybe events and quests related to your children. Perhaps a quest where one of your babies gets sick and you get a quest to find some healing herbs to save them within so many round or else (s)he dies.

perhaps speed up the aging of your sovereign slightly so that they eventually die of age (don't now if they actually do that now or not?) and the son becomes the new Sovereign a bit faster. And then perhaps have the equipement your first sovereign had be turned over to your son with some Enhanced stats as they are now "Relics" of some sort.

Kinda silly that your children are onle a few years younger than your sovereign when they grow up :p

Love it, but it needs work.

1. The age thing needs to be addressed.

2. Grandchildren leaving drives me nuts.  I stopped marrying off the sons because I hate having to kill my own grandchildren (A Song of Ice and Fire reference).

3. I wish you could marry them off to your champions and create minor nobles.

4. Everyone in the royal family fights. After a 4th child, the wife joins the husband for the war.

5. High mana children do not get married.  I will not let loose a powerful mage family if they aren't under my control.

6. They need more pictures, or better yet, a larger variety of faces, and you should be able to create them in a custom menu.

7. Offspring get their own armies. On a side note: I wish I could name an army general and keep him/her fixed in that position.

Love the Dynasty aspect of the game.

The wife is always running around in my games. They still make children. Usually I make her a mage as well and give her a bow.

Have to agree with the untapped potential.  What good is a dynasty if the heir doesn't inherit when the sovereign dies?  Where are the succession wars?  Hope this all gets more meat added to the bones in later updates.

Indeed, implementation of dynasties into actual gameplay could make the game really sing. After all, that's the entire point behind Crusader Kings, and it's got a solid following to this day. Elemental, which also has other stuff, would be great.

Has anyone else noticed that if both parents are mages, the children get mana regeneration in combat. (ie: clarity I,II,etc.)
