[BUG?] Cannot select city when caravan is in the city

Didn't find a thread, sorry if already covered:

I tried everything to select the city, no go, it insists on selecting the caravan.  Anybody else seen this?

Yep, actually i just click on a building in the city and it selects it.

Maybe clicking on the city icon on the left of your screen works too...

Yes, if the city is big enough to have some other buildings you can click on them or click on the city icon on the left.  However, there are unusual cases I've seen where an allied caravan is in my city preventing me from selecting it no matter what.

I've noticed this too.  Why doesn't the caravan go inside the city like every other unit?

Not just limited to Caravans. Any unit on any tile prevents you clicking on the tile beneath. (ex. a troop sitting on an undeveloped Shard will prevent you from developing the Shard)

Ah, true, I've noticed this as well.

Yes, it's annoying. I prefer the Civilization Revolution method where the game will pop up a small menu asking you which object on that particular tile you'd like to view. In this case, you would click on that tile and a little dialog would ask, do you want to view the city or the caravan?

Something like that.

Thank you.

It's more than annoying, it's just bad, period, to have these kinds of fail states with no feedback.  Like the 'can't build within 5 squares of another city' thing.  It's never explained, there is no indication that the other city is 'encroaching' on your territory, suddenly you click on your city and you can't build anything.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were 'bug reports' on this issue in this very forum.

Actually that's another really good suggestion. Some kind of overlay that shows you how close you are to being unable to build due to being too close to another city. I built a city a couple of days ago and could only farm the gold mine, couldn't create anything else. I wish I would have known because I would have moved it a few tiles... Ended up razing it.

Yea, because sometimes I can grow in another direction but it won't let me.  I think it calculates this distance based on total buildable squares, not actual distance to other city.
