Someone please explain life/death book selection, fire dart and other aspects - bugged?

Will someone explain: I research fire dart, fireball etc. but when my sovereign goes to tactical combat I don't get the spell, even though I have full mana???  Bug?

Also, no matter what race I select, I don't get to choose life or death book?  Is it possible to create a sovereign with Life/Death magic ?

Finally, I wonder if the Empire Tech tree was really thought out?  I am playing the Kingdom for the first time and it seems much, much more developed than Empire.  Just a thought.

Someone please help.  I am not seeing my tactical attack spells on the left hand bar where they usually should be.  My giants/spy etc. has them but my Sovereign does not.

Also, someone said that you could select Life/Death at Sovereign Creation but I have twiddled with it for hours (serious twiddling, mind you) and STILL cannot seem to find that option - I only get enchantment.

Help!

Empire factions get the death book, Kingdom factions get the life book.  Spells are not located in the left hand bar.  That contains usable items and special abilities.  To cast spells, you must click on the book icon next to your essence bar, just like you would on the world map.

Hairrorist, thanks for the spell info - that helps.

I've chosen Create Sovereign, and made the person a race considered Fallen but don't see the Death Book?  Could you step me through the Sovereign Creation - i.e. simply tell me a race that should get it ... something seems off here, b/c I've tried all kinds of combinations and never see the option for the death book?

If you make a custom sov, add <StartingSpellbook>DeathSpellbook</StartingSpellbook> to your xml file.

As far as I can tell, the race of your Sovereign is inconsequential.  It is the race of your people that decides which spellbook you receive.

End of hairrorist's quote

Core sovereigns have them listed.

Relias as example.

    <StartingSpellbook>EarthSpellbook</StartingSpellbook>
    <StartingSpellbook>FireSpellbook</StartingSpellbook>
    <StartingSpellbook>WaterSpellbook</StartingSpellbook>
    <StartingSpellbook>AirSpellbook</StartingSpellbook>
    <StartingSpellbook>LifeSpellbook</StartingSpellbook>

Core sovereigns have the life and death books, but custom races have them instead of custom sovereigns. See for yourself - make a Kingdom and an Empire faction, then open the files up in Notepad. Those will have the Life and Death spellbooks, and your sovereign won't.

Why? You'll have to ask SD themselves.
