Let's make the independent factions worth having

I mentioned this earlier responding to Brad's most recent post, but I thought it worth repeating here because this is the right place for it.

I would like to see the minor factions be able to raise unique units which other factions, including the player's, could buy if the diplomatic relations were sufficiently close.

I would also suggest that the minors have special spells of their own, which similarly could be purchased by others.

Finally, the minors could have NPC's available for hire in a sort of a labor market.  These too could be perused in one place - the diplomacy screen.  They would be NPC's unique to the minor faction, with special abilities.

I like it, gives me a reason not to murder them on site.

I think this was originally intended, but didn't make it into release.

You are supposedly supposed to be able to buy cool things from their shops but I have yet to figure out how to do it...

I think most of what you suggested actually was intended, as Heavenfall mentioned.  I think Brad even alluded to this in a video of his when he was speaking about designing factions.

You can buy from them if you have a non-aggression pack or alliance. You'll then be able to go onto their sphere of influence and use the purchase option there. Though I have yet to find anything super unique or special in their shops.

I've done the Non-Agression pacts before but you can't go into their city... :/

I don't murder them until I've traded away their 1057gold into my pocket... usually with diplomatic captial.  4 minor factions brings the gold total around 4200.

All you need is to stand in their influence borders and then purchase... like previously mentioned there's nothing special being sold.  In fact all magic items are very bland... doing only stat bonuses.

The minor factions are completely brain dead on the map... what's worse is the leader of each minor faction stands alone outside his city holding a sign which reads, "Future Road Kill".  Seriously these minor factions don't need to be expanding, but they should be trying to survive, use nearby resources, trading for needed materails and above all protect their only city with new upgraded guards.

it would be cool if they had special champions that could only be obtained through buying their contract(trade screen), or marrying them to yourself or your own offspring.  these would be very unique champions.
