A little disappointed

First off, I'm a big fan of Stardock's games.
I like Elemental in a lot of ways, but come on...it's 2010. Can't we do better than (1)start a game (2) play for 5 minutes and then all hell breaks loose and we get wiped out?
I mean, come on. This is the same recipe that was used back in 95. Aren't we further ahead in logic technology? The AI on MOO2 was bad but we sucked it up because it was circa 1996. We knew that something was better down the pike. Here we are in 2010 and we're still getting the same AI? Nothing has changed but the JPGs. That's crap. Game developers should do better. Better AI is not a pipe dream.
Please don't spam, I'm really a fan and want to have good games to play. I just see this game as basically "GalCiv 2" with new JPGs.

Disappointed and tired of spending money.

Well since you can obviously program superior AI why don't you get to cracking sparky?

Man, these are all 3D models, not some sprites. And textures and art are in PNG. So I'm not sure where did you see the jpegs.

As for AI, its same as everywhere. "True" AI is impossible with modern hardware. Exhaustive heuristics too - it still takes a super-computer to calculate all possible outcomes in the chess, and games like Elemental have much wider and deeper tree.

So its down to programming some 'successful' tactics into it and let it use them. And to do it you need to know own game and need to know how everyone plays it. It simply cannot be done right away.

That might be the stupidest thing I have ever seen someone say Dragoaskani.  Who is the one selling a consumer product with an AI?

But, to comment, the AI in Galciv was really good.  Have you read the latest note where Wardell says he is taking a sabbatical to cocoon himself away and work on the AI?

you can't compare GC2 AI with EWOM, since GC2 AI are easier to make since there are less element to factor in and let's not talk about tactical battle AI in EWOM since it's a whole another level of AI programming, which I don't think a year of AI work will get it to be good or smart enough to outwit real player in battle using different type of game play element.

How bout because the files to edit the AI aren't available? I don't really agree with the OP, I do think the AI is pretty bad but that's what you get when you start really working on it about 30 days before release...Hopefully they get that solved soon.

Also I find it funny that the posts by people to complain about the people that don't like the game (or are just disappointed and offering constructive criticism)  end up far with far more outrage/vitrol then the original post ever was, funny how that works isn't it sparky?

This is not constructive. Just because he, as a customer, does not have the knowledge to provide a solution does not mean he is not allowed to complain about what he sees as a shortcoming of the game.

I agree the AI is weak. Brad said he'd be working on the AI more and the game should be much better in a patch to be released this Fall (late September?)
