What if Champions (and your Sovereign) gave + bonuses to your army?

I was reading people's messages, and kicking around the thought of..

What would you say if your Champions and Sovereign gave your army leadership bonuses, and that was their primary purpose in army vs army fights. Your Sovereign and his/her small group of Champions cannot beat other companies of soldiers alone, but if they group with one of your own armies it provides bonuses. Your Champions and Sovereign can still cast spells as normal though, but I think it would remove the "party of 3 vs. Armies" problem that I'm getting a vibe that some people are having.

Basically..

Champions vs Enemy Army = Death for Champions

Your Army vs Enemy Champions = Death for Enemy Champions

Your Army vs Enemy Army = Fair fight (depending on stats)

Your Army + Champions vs Enemy Army = You have the bonus advantage

Your Army vs Enemy Champion + Army = You have a bonus disadvantage

I'm fine with the way things are, but I wouldn't mind the above being implemented. If you take a small party of champions versus an army, most likely you'll be destroyed in a blink of an eye.

Aye, I think Champs should have leadership skills ;)

...

and where are the late-game abilities I've been hearing about/ wanting??

//

ps. Being "Warlord" should also start you off with an extra leadership ability/skill, or something like that

pss. All Sovereigns should get a sovereign only leadership ability that makes them a step ahead of Champions

also ... Sovs n Champs should really be able to develop their class, instead of being stuck with +1 movement, +1 gildar, +1 research, etc ... maybe with new class abilities (in addition to everyone having access to leadership abilities). Say class-related abilities and ways to upgrade your class along an upgrade path (like Thief upgrades to Treasure Hunter OR Crimelord)

I agree, your Sovereign should provide something like a huge morale bonus, after all your Sovereign is the King/Queen leading your forces.

I also think this is a cool idea. Maybe turn one of the stats into a combo stat with leadership that slightly boosts the power of your army. Would be pretty interesting to have pure-general champions who are very poor in combat (well protected with armor and +health of course) that end up buffing your army to double or perhaps even triple strength.

Sort of like the way ME:TW2, and Empire:TW do it, but with stats that are actually readable.

Could make sovereigns able to get a huge army bonus by default to their current stack. Maybe make it so its weaker when attacking settlements or something (or just make the overall settlement defensive battles give big boosts to defenders, or perhaps some passive stacks that auto defend with a small militia for cities so that an undefended city isn't completely defenseless)

ah, speaking of attacking settlements ... bring back the Citi battles we were promised :)

Certain magical spells can attack sections of wall (to destroy them) and (soldiers of) cities without walls have to just hide in their buildings :)

for instance, buildings give high defense boost, minimal HP boost, and small attack boost

Being on a wall gives you high defense boost, high attack boost, and medium HP boost.

if the wall section you are on is damaged, you get some of the damage (or all if its aesthetic AOE like fireball, or true AOE like infernal).

if your wall section you are on is destroyed, you "fall down" taking damage. (falling down damage cannot be defended or dodged)

City-based tactical maps will probably need to be bigger ... it can still just be a section of the city (instead of whole thing), but rly those defenders need to be in buildings and on walls, not outside of them :p

Wasnt this how it was in MOM? I think it would be cool and give your heroes that epic feel. They could even still have items and be able to take out large groups of soldiers, etc.

I think we'll need champions/sovs able to survive more then 1 shot from a 12 group of archers before we can really worry about their benefits to the armies haha.

God i'm terrified to put a champion in an army right now.

But it already exists, there is a talent that raises morale of your army or lowers the morale of the enemy.

No idea what morale does though ;)

Morale rises and lowers (if higher or lower than 50) basic Atk and Def stats of the units.

hehe yea ... stacking attack, and stacking defense ... is really broken imho. (Especially defense)

and also, cause apparantly that *fix* stardock made about incorrect health maximums make it so that now a 12-soldier company reduced to 1 soldier still has the attack AND defense of 12 soldiers. That's just MORE broken than it was before.

Don't get me wrong, the game is still addictive ... I just wish the tactical battles were more streamlined, made more sense, and were more enjoyable in general.
