Spellbooks of life and death missing?

Why all the pre-made sovereigns have one of these books and custom-made sovereigns cannot take one?

I think those two books are granted according to which 'side' you belong to: kingdom or empire. Kingdom sovereigns get the life book and empire sovereigns get the death book.

Spells has two sides.

Let's say summoning. The 'light' (or Life) side version has "Summon Vigilant defender", the Empire (death) side has "Summon Spy". Same creature, different title. The elemental spells are kind of 'neutral', so this is only with the enchantment and summoning books. Since you no longer start with the summoning books, there will be a few spells you don't see, but you will get them later.

Funny thing about that. I created a Sovereign with Summoning on the 1.01 patch and now I can still start with it, but I can't do so on new Sovereigns I create.
