Seriously Frustrated

Howdy all.

I'm trying not to rant so sorry it is comes across that way.  I am having several issues (not technical, just how to play the damned game).

Ok, movement.  If I use the arrows, my troops only move diagonal (please for the love of Xenu fix that).  Someone suggested using the mouse ( I actually have a trackball) but that isn't working.  I highlight and click, or drag and click but all it does is move the map.  Help!

I started a city, but can't get my hero or any of the troops in it to leave the city to explore.  What in the world am I missing there?

I have been surfing the forums but can't really find an answer to my questions.  Many thanks all.

Left click the portrait on the bottom left to pick which units you want to move from the city.

right click the square you want them to move to

For movement, left click on a unit or army and right click where you want it to go. Its pretty standard for as long as I can remember.

To have a unit leave a city, click on its portrait when you have the city selected and click the little arrow on top of the portrait, or right click on the ground outside of the city to make him move.

right click on ground to move troops.

On the city on the left hand side you will see their little circle portrait icons. You have several ways of moving them from here. Click on one so the ring turns gold (ie selected) then either click the little arrow at the top of its portrait, or right click a spot outside of the city. You can select multiples of them by holding shift while you click their portraits.

Thank you for replying, but that isn't working either.  Well, I take that back, it did allow me to pull my troops from the city, but for movement it isn't working.  Maybe I will try another mouse.

After doing this, if you click on the little up arrow, the selected units will create an "army."  Very handy.

As for units moving diagonally when you use the arrow keys, by default the stratgeic map view is aimed "northwest".  If you tilt the map (press and hold your mouse button and move your mouse) so that it is aimed "north" your arrow keys will suddenly become more intuitive :P
