Naming Terrain Features

Is it possible to name landmarks and terrain features (ie. mountain ranges, deserts, battle sites, etc) in sandbox mode the same way one names units and cities? Or is landmark naming a feature only available in the modding toolbox?

It'd be so cool if the game would appropriately pick from a huge list of landmarks and adjectives to automatically name a region of the map.

Stardock, you gotta make this happen!

Just imagine, the game detects a mountain range with a river in between and intelligently picks from the list to name it something like:

"The Gleaming Shards"

Wow! That is an awesome idea.  There was a game that you could do that, you would drag your mouse and highlight an area on the map, than you could "name" that region.   I used it mostly for naming mountain ranges, rivers, etc.  Added a personal element that I liked.

Its dont in some Civilization 4 mods, and i'd LOVE to see it in Elemental too :)

Yeah!  Awesome idea!  It strokes the ego too, since you'd be able to not only name cities after yourself, but mountains as well.  Heck, you could even name a coastline after your wife or children if you wanted.

IIRC, when Elemental was first being discussed, Stardock mentioned that players would be able to name everything on the strat map.

Well, I hope this is something that might be easily modded in by some intrepid person. Naming regions too--uber cool idea. If I recall correctly, one can name landmarks in Fall from Heaven 2.

I name cities after myself all the time :) Also many of the characters in my game are named after me and my wife.

Heh, if they could make it like Dwarf Fortress where everything has a random name and flavour text I'd be in heaven ^_^

Sometimes I pick characters from some movie or TV show I like to name cities or characters. Sometimes it's celebrities I'd love to see duke it out. A few times I've used characters (or places) from other games - Thrall, New Reno, Cloud, Graham, Liberty City, Krynn, Iolo, Nameless, etc.

Tried naming them all Ed once. That game got... a little confusing.

This has been suggested twice before and it would be a really cool feature.

It's a neat idea, and it would further make this game world more attractive than Meadow Lane = Industrial complex, barren ground with yellow stains, or

Oak Grove Alley = concrete as far as the eye can see , and Spring Brook Walk = Swamp of the Dead.

That is to say the real world.
