HELP! modifying msgina.dll and shell32.dll

Hello.
Was hoping u guys could help me a bit.

I changed some of the bmp files in "msgina.dll" and "shell32.dll" in windows\system32\
And when i rename the old one to "msgina.old" and put the new files in its place (same with the "shell32.dll"
Then the windows wont display the new pictures :Z - still show the old once.

So im looking for some help to let it actually work. :Z dunno what to do.

Im using Windows XP pro and i customized the files using ResHacker (Resource Hacker).

Hope ya can help.

Kv.

Just a shot in the dark, have you rebooted after making changes, old images may be in memory and need a reboot to change.

Key, my problem has changed a bit ;)

After trying like a mofo searching for some file (incase the msgina.dll and shell32.dll wasnt the only one with the images)... then i found out.
When i replace the msgina.dll and shell32.dll.. and i reboot, Windows "fixes" them so they are like they were befor i try to change them:

So my question is then:
How can i tell my windows to stop "repearing" the files ? :Z

I have tried doing it in Safe mode, but that doesnt work ether.

Any ideas?

msgina.dll is a pain. I wish I could tell you a definitive way that works, but I haven't found one but trial and error.

Ok Bambi

apart the msgina.  the only way is to boot\reboot in SafeMode then apply your changes in the end reboot in NormalMode but did you firstly rebuilt your modded .dll files ? ;)

Hehe, I got it fixed!
Thx for all the answers.

Frankell's trick almost worked... I had to boot in safe mod, login as administrator (tho i dont know why, coz my user had the administrator level)
And change it there.. and boot to normal screen.

So for those who are thinking about changing these files and had the same problem..u can do it like this. (Well worked here atleast.)

Thx again ppl !

Hehe, I got a new problem again, hahaha.

Okey, the logoff and shutdown screen looks GREAT. But i noticed one thing :Z

When i change skins or something (Get this "Please wait" Dialog) Then my flag gets fucked up :Z

The Bitmap image is all pink, i was trying to make it invisible and i worked on shutdown and logoff.. but when its on the "Please wait" dialog, then its just... well Ping :Z

I cant even find the dialog for that "Please wait" window.

Do you guys know where it is ?
Or how i can make the ping thingy work ? :Z

Thx.

More often than not when using reshack to alter bitmaps people will try to include images with the wrong colour depth eg 16bit vs 8bit.  That'll typically screw things up...;)
