Newbie question : how to raze/not keep cities you conquer ?

Hello,

I'm stuck with all the AI cities I've conquered, many of which suck ; this ruins my administration costs. Is it supposed to be you must keep all cities you conquer ? This is be awful on a large map.

I'm pretty sure you could raze cities in previous Beta versions.

Thanks !

You can raze cities, but it's "tech related". IE. you must reseach the corresponding technology first.

Ok thanks

I'm sorry but which / where in the tree is the tech ? I couldn't find it in the Hiergamon

There's a tech to torch a city.... hmmmm sounds a bit silly to me. Even the most primitive combatant could burn a city to the ground.

Pardon me, but I still can't find where the tech is ...

..for Kingdom factions: Conquest -> Fortifications. I am not sure about the Empire factions..I haven't played with those in these days.

LOL, really?  You need tech to committ genocide?  Mankind has been committing genocide since the dawn of time.

Yes, the tech requirement sounds very gamey and should be removed or modded out. Problem of modding it out is we'll have to teach the ai to use it.

I don't think that should be a tech related, you should be able to raze your own city on demand, 24/7 whenever you like it so it won't fall into "the wrong hand".

Of course you need tech.  If you don't know how to properly burn down the city, then the citizens (of which your army is made up) will revolt.

They require safe handling of all destructive materials before they will let you burn their homes and workplaces to the ground.

actually in 3c it was tech related it is no longer... my current warfare is level 4 logistics, equipment, weaponry, and ranged and all i have to do is hit the "x" key to delete... either it got disconnected, is hooked to some earlier tech, on accident or the text linking it to tech is in error in beta 4 :D

All I know is that they need to move that button. I can't tell you how many times I've ALMOST razed my capital while selecting something else. It wouldn't hurt to hide that disband button more too.

LOL, what? When you raze a city you are burning and destroying everything.  You are taking all the men (the cowards who won't fight), women, and children out of their homes and slaughtering them.  You are burning everything to the ground.  I.E., genocide, because when you raze a city nothing is left over (or at the very least, the people are fleeing to the wilds as their city is destroyed).  I beleive in MOM, if you razed a city, you lost fame.  Genocide tends to make you infamous.

Citizens of a foreign town do not make up your army.  When you raze a city, the citizens are presumed to be killed or to have fled into the wilds.  Either way, they have basically vanished in game terms.  Your post above actually makes the point that the NORMAL CONQUERING and holding onto a city needs tech, since the buildings are left in tact and the people left over are allowed to live presumumbly as slaves to serve you.  If anything, you would need tech to be able to conquer and hold onto a city with some population left over.
