Building on the ashes of your enemy....

Ok,

I'm loving Beta 4, (its feeling like a game these days) :D and I've been slapping poor Relias <sp> around.  I've settled on his city that the Bandits/Brigands helpfully razed, and while I was able to easily recover the Fertile Land, there are chunks of destroyed territory I can't figure out how to 'cleanse'.

The city in question.

I had the same problem, but after a few turns it allowed me to build on the rubble, so I'm thinking it just becomes unusable for a set time period

it's more frustrating you can't use buildings of a different faction from you :/ it makes sense but it could be explained better.

Or it should be auto-razed. Empires v Kingdoms and all and not having compatible ideas makes assimilation difficult if not impossible.

when i take over an empire town i have to basically destroy every building in town manually and then rebuild everything as my own

an auto raze feature like you mentioned would be a great addition, and if not then an additional technology in the warfare department called assimilation could be introduced...

Assimilation - Upon conquering an opposing factions city, your troops can hold the city for x amount of turns before all buildings are automatically converted to your factions buildings

Personally, I think an Assimilation tech would fit better with Diplomacy and use Diplomatic Capital... :nudge nudge Frogboy:

But I do like the concept.

that would work, as well as put a more direct use for diplomatic capital rather than just having it being used as a bargaining chip
