Scenario with no starting ships?

Is it possible to make a scenario where you don't start with any ships?

I am not too happy about starting out with three ships, especially a survey ship. What I used so far is a modification of the ship specifications that makes the survey ship into a new class I called "prototype" that basically makes the ship useless. But what I would really like to see is for the game to start with no ships at all, or at most a scout. This would, at least for me, add to the feeling of immersion in the beginning. Does anyone have an idea how to make scenario rules that make you start with no ships, while still leaving everything else modifiable. In other words, I'd like to still be able to change the map size and the usual rules of the game.

Short answer: yes; I remember the Devs telling us that if/when you made a custom ship tree you had to include the 3 basic designs or you wouldn't start with any ships. So it is possible, I just wish I could remember where everything is in the xml for you.  Its been 2-3 years now since I did any modding for GCII so I can't really give you any more help than that.

Be aware/careful with it though, you could unintentionally gimp the AI; especially since they rarely, if ever, build survey vessels (because they very rarely, if ever, research Sensors)
