How does one add a "referral" to a post?

Where it shows replies, on one of my posts, it also shows a referral, which is a link to a website.  I can't see how one would even add a referral.  How does that work?

You don't add the referral.  It just shows the links to a site or blog that referenced your post/article.

Oh.. so it's like a trackback.

I think a spammer might have exploited that, then.  The referral on my post was for a warez site.  (Or maybe they considered it "news" and didn't know about the referrals system.)

I plan on removing the referral system in the future.  Seems kind of useless to me, especially for a forum.
