Help WIth Odd Spaceship Graphics

It seems after a reinstall my spaceship graphics are wonky. On many of the ships there are what I can best describe as lines of color that extend from some of the spaceships.. This occurs in the game and in all the expansions - fully patched.  My setup is as follows: 8800 GT, AMD 5600 x2, 2 gigs of RAM and the latest version of DX.

this happened to me too.  It happened after a processor upgrade for some reason, it was a pretty old PC.  The only way I could ever fix it was to turn off high resolution ship graphics in the options.  Now, I have a completely new PC and things are back to normal.
