Map-Making

HALP

So I downloaded meself some user made maps and proceeded to put them in my \Galaxy directory in Sins.

7 out of the 30-ish maps I downloaded appear in the map selection lists in-game.

I even made a map of my own and it won't bloody show up there either.

I have a non-updated version of Sins by the way.

I'm clueless as to what the hell is wrong.

Hell, I even have all of the original maps from the \Galaxy directory saved into the Galaxy Forge directory along with the downloaded ones and the one I made myself.

SOMEONE HALP!!!

That's your problem; in February of 2009, a patch changed the map format and new maps won't work on older versions of the game.  You'll need to patch to install these maps.

As well, the map directory changed in that version as well:

c:\Users\<Username>\AppData\local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

Once you patch, this is where you put downloaded maps.

To patch the game to the most recent version, download "Impulse" and register your serial key.

If you legitimately own the game and you're not a pirate, you should download and install Impulse to patch it up.  You can find it here:

What directory are you putting the maps in?  All maps created with the current version of galaxyforge should be compatible with the most recent versions of Sins, Entrenchment, and Diplomacy/Trinity.

i have tried saving the file in both galaxy forge and galaxy folders but it only shows up on the original Sins game.

Got the map to show. I added the map to the galaxy manifest file. Also at the top of the file it has a number of how many maps the file has. Make sure the number matchs the number of maps.

That didn't answer my question, what directory are you putting it in, as in the full path.

I added the map to the galaxy manifest file.

Ah, so you were trying to put it into the "program files" directory.  This isn't where you're supposed to put it, but if you edit the manifest file it will work.  As I mentioned, the correct directory is:

c:\users\<username>\AppData\Local\IronClad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

It's a bit of an annoying place to find, but you can dump the map files there and they'll work without having to change the manifest file.
