Are there any limits to refinery income other than the 3/4 per extractor rule? And how does killing ships affect the income rate?

Asking because the .entity files list a "maxCargoShipCount" (set to 10), which implies that a refinery can only service that many extractors, probably less since they usually send multiple ships to 1 mine.

Does this really cap refinery income? In most of the other threads people say a refinery needs to service 10 or so mines to be better than a trade port, yet if this limit is true that isn't possible.

Now to the second question: I know killing cargo ships supposedly, somehow lowers income, but is it really only "living cargo ships"/"max cargo ships" as a multiplier for the standard rate?

And where do cargo hold sizes fit in the income equation? (i.e. how effective is the TEC upgrade)

I tried searching for existing threads, but couldn't find any answers to these questions. If I missed one please just point me to it. (I do know about the 3/4 extractor rule though)

No, the refineries ships have no bearing on the number of extractors they can service.  Killing a refinery ship, as with a trade ship, will reduce refinery income for a brief duration and the enemy will earn a small amount of resources for destroying it, but that's it.  I don't know how much the refinery loses effectiveness.

As for the TEC upgrade, it increases income by the percentage listed.  It's pretty unambiguous, IMO.

So at least it's theoretically possible for a refinery to be more effective than a trade port.

So the cargo hold upgrade is a flat income bonus, but does the base number have any effect? For example does it define the resources earned for destroying the ship (I set the cargo size to 50000 and didn't see any difference in trade income, so it seems to do nothing for the owner of the ship.)

That's more a question for modders, as I don't know about the specifics of how this tech was implemented.  What I do know is that my credit and refinery income increases when I research it.

Refineries can be SEVERAL TIMES more profitable than a trade port when positioned at a cross-roads where they get access to tons of extractors.  Here is a link to an old thread discussing em if you have time.

No clue about your modding implementation questions....probably try the modding forum.

@ Cykur: Those threads are why I posted this, as a few others stated that you need 10 mines to catch up with Trade Ports (and the thread you are pointing to uses the refinery income rate for neutrals in the calculation, which is .08 instead of .06).

So, since refineries are limited to 10 ships, I wondered whether they could service more mines than that, as having 10 ships for 20 mines looks kinda stupid compared to 10 ships for 5 mines. Darvin already answered this, but the ship count was my reason for posting, as it would have ruined most calculations and limit refineries to "slightly more profitable than Trade Ports - if you have 5 neutrals around you"

My bad, I reread your original question and see you were asking about trade ships as the limiter.  Also, in my responses in the lengthy posts, I used .06 as the base value, not .08.  The trade ships were probably limited for practicality to conserve game resources.  I have had a refinery servicing 20 extractors before, and the income appears to scale in a linear fashion....which is to say, it becomes really incredible.

Probably not -- I'm not really in a position to give huge blocks of time to internet gaming and I don't have dedicated hi speed internet at home atm.  Every so often I wonder what is happening on the forums and I log on to take a look around.

Maybe we'll see you when 1.20 comes out.  I'm sitting out the remainder of 1.19, myself.
