One has trinity one does not.....What files do i need??

I bought Sins Trinity thinking thats what my friends had... They only had the original (Vanilla). Every time we try to LAN using Hamachi I get the message "You dont have the files needed". I am aware that using ICO should solve this problem but I Should have the ability to play the game as i choose. Neither one of us are using mods, and we both get the same message no matter who is host. Anything that HELPS would be appreciated.

what version does your friends have?

Trinity is at 1.191 and often ones who play on Hamachi usually don't have theirs up to date

You can still play with your friend, you just have to use the "Play Sins of a Solar Empire" option or run the Sins of a Solar Empire.exe file in the game folder. That should run the base game without any expansions, and as long as you and your friend have the same version of that you should be good to go.

bonus pack 1.05?

do they have entrenchment? (which is 1.051)

or do they have the last nonImpulse release patch 1.05 for vanilla (which is hopelessly incompatible with what you have)

Did your friends purchase the game or did they pirate it (v1.05)?  Basically, you all need to have the same version of the game in order to play it together.  Everyone should download and install Impulse and then register the game with it in order to patch up to the latest version, which is v1.191 for regular Sins.  Also, note that you can see the version you have installed by opening the game and looking at the lower right of the screen.  If some of your friends haven't purchased Sins, note that it's on sale for $4 as a download over Impulse right now, but that sale will probably end in a few hours.

Trinity is just a fancy name for the compilation pack, or a fancy way of saying "Sins of a Solar Empire Complete (with both of the expansions)".  In your main Sins folder you will find three different .exe's.  You might want to create shortcuts for them or a special Start Menu folder for them:

  • Sins of a Solar Empire.exe
  • Sins of a Solar Empire Entrenchment.exe
  • Sins of a Solar Empire Diplomacy.exe

If your friends only have standard Sins then you guys can only play standard Sins together.
