DeskSpaces is crashing ALOT!!

Hello,

Can someone explain why the HELL does DeskSpaces crash Explorer and freeze all other applications atleast 3 TIMES A DAY?!?

It freezes explorer even when doing nothing or when surfing the net. The only solution is to click on the taskbar repeatedly and click restart explorer... If its just going to be crashing like this I'm going to stop using it... Don't get me wrong the animated wallpapers are awesome, but it's just not worth it if my pc is crashing so much.

You really need to provide some more information about the system you are running DeskScape on like what OS, what version of DeskScapes what is you video card etc.  There are minimum system requirements so in order for anyone to help you this information is important. :sun:

If you set it to run Winter snow or Desktop Earth or Vintage dream, does it continue to happen?

Neil, I can run the three you just mentioned just fine, but all the others would eventually freeze up and I would have to disable the program in my task manager. I'm running it on XP 32bit, 2gigs of ram, and a Geforce 8800 GTS video card with a 3.0ghz Dual Core AMD processor. Is it some sort of program conflict or something?

Ahh. You have a 8800GTS.

We have had a number of reports of problems with Deskscapes and 8800GTS graphics cards when running video dreams.  The most unusual thing is it is very specific to one series of card the 8800GTS and other boards made with the same chip.  We do not get reports of this with ATI, intel or even other nvidia boards.  Usually the report is from Vista / 7 users and the end result is what appears to be a system lockup, but it looks like on XP it just locks the only app using 3D (on Vista / 7 the DWM is also using 3D and so locks too)

We have reported it to nvidia and hopefully they will be able to resolve the problem.

Out of interest what is the version number of your video drivers?

Also is yours a 320MB 8800GTS, a 640MB 8800GTS or a 512MB 8800GTS?

I have the 640mb 8800GTS, and the video drivers were the most up to date ones as of two months ago. Currently on the nvidia site right now and see that they have updated drivers for my video card. I'll download them and update you on how things turn out.

Yeah, it's still doing the same thing. Are there any more hybrid dreams that I can download until I'm able to get a new video card?

Mannn Nvidia you SUCK! :)

Yeah I guess it is card specific, I have the same type of issue (only worse since I'm on Win7 so it locks up the whole PC, probably because of the whole Aero-3d UI thing?) where I can only run non-movie based dreams, with a 8800GTX (rather than GTS), 768mb.  (For the record I guess it's 8800's of any type.)
