need help stuck advancing?

Hello. I been stuck trying to upgrade my planet but when I click on the them, then said its fully upgraded. But when I click on research there are still some researched required. In fleets I only been able to upgrade to lvl 2. When I try to build more facilities they say I need more planets to be upgraded but its fully upgraded. I keep going back and forth. Its very confusing. Do I need to explore more planets? Any suggestions would be helpful thank you.

exploring more planets is always a good idea, as well as colonizing them (use colonizing frigate or capital ship)

also much of the technology is controlled by how many labs you have and you can only put a limited number of labs/structures per planet (varies per planet) so having more planets will help with this issue

You will need to colonize planets; a single planet is completely insufficient.  The level of technology you're limited to is based on the number of research labs you have.  Each planet can only support a limited number of structures, and after factories this leaves insufficient room on your homeworld.  You'll need to expand to become more advanced.

you need to colonize these planets first using colonizer frigates or colonizer capital ships (TEC Akkan, Advent Mothership, Vasari Jarrasul)

colonize these planets then use the interface/menu to the lower right corner to access such things like planet upgrades, logistic upgrades (for orbital facilities) and such

It might help to play through the built-in Tutorial a couple times and then perhaps once every week until you've picked it all up.  I'm pretty sure that most of this is covered in that tutorial.
