the point is...

Almost every day I visit the old WC and the new forum sites. About twice a week I go to the new WC site to see if any of the changes that have been requested have been implemented. I have my galleries list edited so I only have an extra click to open the list then choose the gallery as opposed to just click once for the gallery, annoying but workable. But I'm still unable to find the sortable report for "my skins". I just stare at the screen wondering where it could be, it's not really there, is it?

I have heard that others (beside myself) don't like the hand print previews (used to be called thumbnails) or limiting the number of displayed skins to 9. I also notice that the number of downloads are not present on the main viewing page, which I think is a good thing.

I've also complained about the seeming focus being on master skinners/skins while regulating the rest of us to obscurity. While I can understand the commercial aspect of this, the community spirit seems lost.

WC is going to do what it is going to do regardless of the feedback. I'm sure that they appreciate us all beta testing the site for them and while some changes have been implemented others have been ignored. I just find it increasingly difficult to support this site when I feel it is not supporting me and others like me.

I enjoy skinning, it's a great hobby, I appreciate the venue to post my creations and thank the old WC mentality for making it so. Regretfully, when the change takes place, and still in it's present configuration, I'll have to rethink my continued participation here.

I to have questioned how often I would be back. I don't skin, i don't partake in many discussions. I come mainly to enjoy the work of others, and to be cheered up in the warm fellowship of the forums. I can understand the need for change.

Perhaps once I get used to the new, i will like it more. But I love the old site. When I sign in, I can see that its main purpose is to promote skinning and the artist that do it. The new site, although I love many of its new features, is to me cold and very commercial. The space given to your average skinner, has been cut down. More space appears to be given to ads then to the everyday skinner. One thing I highly dislike about the new site is when I click on a forum topic from the main page, I see the latest news on the side. I want the recent forum activity. News updates a couple times a day at most and never on the weekends. Forum activity every few minutes.

I to appreciate what this site does for people. Without it many people would probably not be able to skin what they do. The new site leads me to think that the main focus of Wincustomize may have shifted a bit. My warm fuzzy feeling is gone.

Thank you Gmc2 for making me think. I am glad to that I am not the only one who seems to feel this way.

Unfortunately, every request or feature suggestion just can't be implemented for what could be several reasons.  It might not be high on the priority list, it might not be feasible, etc.  It's not being "ignored" as we have implemented many changes based directly on user feedback, but the reality is not everything makes the cut.

I'm just curious as to what specifically is being talked about.

This is the bulk of the main page and there really aren't any "ads" that a subscriber sees.  If you are not a subscriber, then ads are what helps support the site.

The WC 2K10 Tour image will be replaced with something else eventually, below that are two areas showing new and popular skins.  On the right there are selectable categories showing top skins, top skinners, etc.

This is the bulk of the old site.  The new site clearly has more information about the skins and skinners than this one.

Hehe, ya both make me laugh.  Ya'll have been here to see the site change a few times and we all bitched everytime it changed.  And we will bitch on the next change as we are all creatures of habit, we get used to the way things are.  In a few weeks or months when we get used to the new site we will probably love it.  So for now, just bitch, threats never work, as you can be replaced, which you should have learned by now.

I know what you mean, but it seemed in the past to add "somethings" for us, not take them away. We had "my skins" and now we don't, that's a step backward. I have *EDIT*

I dunno, I've been attempting to change over ever since it was opened up, what, at least a couple of months now. There have been some changes and improvements however the things that I mention are either still the same or still lacking. It is what has kept me on the old site.

*EDIT*: looks like the change has taken place. I went to check something and the new site came up. timing is everything.

You can see a quick list of your skins on your new WC profile page, its not exactly what you are looking for, but should fit until something more comprehensive is implemented.

In addition there should be no click needed to see your list of galleries, its a hover drop down so it's really just in a different place that allows us to get more on the page.

Also I changed it so you can view way more than 9 skins at a time a while back.  You can go up to 60 on one page in either the list view or the preview/images view.

I'm sorry you still don't like a lot of things, but we are listening to things you are asking for and trying to accommodate you whenever possible.

Kestral, I'll bet that these things you mentioned have been discussed within the forum and I just plain missed them, glad to hear about them. I did attempt to access my settings and had a page fail but that is understandable with the change over. I'll look again later. Also sounds as though there is something in the works along the lines of "my skins", very glad to hear that.

It's not that I dislike a lot of things, it is just that there were some dissapointments. By your feedback much of this has been taken up and I look forward to the final results.

this is not really a complaint, sorry for indicating such, more of a impression and observation. I believe I understand why and don't really know yet how this will impact me. There is a lot of good talent here and no reason why not to highlight their work.

not sure it belongs in this thread but the other is titled wincustomize 2010 beta feedback. Since the site is now live...

On the front page, concerning the big section that contains the New and Popular tabs.

The little tiny link that says More is VERY hard to hit. It's not active unless the underline appears and making it do that is difficult. If you click on the word and the underline has not popped you will be taken to the page of the last item in the list. If you could make that word More larger it may trigger easier and more reliable activation.

The new site is so much more skinner centric that to compare the two seems crazy to me.

Read through the tour:

The only thing missing (only because the page has to be written to .net) is the my skins list which is on the way.

I'm not seeing download numbers and other such information on the "my skins" page.............. will that be coming back? B[]

Showcasing those who have been here the longest, worked the hardest, helped the community the most and produced the finest work isn't necessarily a bad thing.  The fact is,any work submitted to the site by a member has a chance to be a feature, including screenshots regardless of rank. I've seen some fine work by relative newcomers and first-timers. I wish I had a small fraction of the talents shown here at WC.

Obscurity is only for the mediocre with no ambition or imagination. Both the spotlight and Master status are within reach of anyone who works at it.

my point is... I think there is a balance here. It may be weighted one way or the other from time to time but in the long run there is equal exposure for everyone.

I can agree with you for the old site however my initial impression of the new site is different but only time will tell.

Yep, which is good but as a subscriber and since My Settings is missing, I must set the view each time I go into a skin gallery, setting in one gallery does not change view globally. Will this setting return for us soon.

Maybe not a new site thing but will also add here that from My Account in the forums the registrations page is different than the one that was on My Settings, always has been. Since right now it is only access at WC to my purchased skins, for some that have 2 links, like Oxidized suite, the first link is for the extras wall, boot, widgets etc, the second I think would then be for the Suite but it is dead. When mouseover it cursor changes as if it is a link but when click nothing happens and in status bar of Firefox there is no url.
