The iPad Thread

The iPad Thread

Well, I got mine (32GB wifi)... I know IslandDog got one as well.

This thing is awesome. I spent pretty much every waking minute with it since I got it on Saturday, and now I find my iPhone to be a pain to use. But it's more than just a bigger iPod Touch. The iPad-designed apps are pretty amazing. Yes, there have been tablets before, but the iPad finally delivers on the "new paradigm." It's not a PC; Apple isn't trying to cram a desktop OS into it. But for a mobile consumption device, it's amazing.

I would not think it possible, unless you jail broke it, for the ipad to be infected (well either that or apple are shit at programming). Its just too locked down the only programms that you can run on it are directly from apple.

You just put how it would need to be hacked there.  All would be needed is to know what code tells the ipad that the program is from apple.  Also my buddy has a macbook and did get a virus...There are less of them out there just because less people use apple and virus makers are trying to hit the most people at once.

for the same money I can get an Asus tablet netbook running Windows 7

Why do I need an iPad again?

If you call him your buddy and he owns a mac i would think there a resonable chance that the streotype of idiot mac user may apply.

I suppose if the virus infected the computer with itunes and then uses it or something else to overight the firmware or load its own app you could get infected but you dont deserve to get many virues if you let that happend, besides it does not the ram to run antivirus. The ipad is not a computer its a large smart phone/mp3 player.

Quoting ozo, reply 34Interesting... what happens if i remove the iPhone from iPad?

EDIT wait, what that's Archos thing? Half the battery life, no touch screen (trackpoint and mousebuttons? No TY)... Skype is nice but i have a cellphone for talking. And it ain't much cheaper either... Plus it has Windows 7... while i haven't had any real problems with WinVista, i don't want every device i own to have Windows or Microsoft on it.

You don't want Windows, but you would rather have the totalitarian regime of Apple? The company that locks everything down and only wants you to buy from them and from them only? The company that blocks flash, so they can sell you apps and games you could get for free otherwise? Yeah, Windows is evil.

And as for DnD, remember, you can't multitask on the iPad. Write a note, save and close, open browser. Close browser, load note, save and close. It's coming down the line, but really, there's no reason to buy an iPad now. Like the iPod, Apple lags behind on features and introduces them in later models.

I wonder if the iPad will be like the iPod Touch in that you can download movies and clips from Vuze and I download a lot of books from my library onto my iPod Touch.  All have the capabilities.  I love my Touch for everything.  I have no problems with download music from other systems and putting them on my iPod.  Games might be another story...

Thanx for the personal attack on my friend. Plus, he was given the macbook.  Also there are things called rogue programs that look like the real thing. If someone hacks the app site and places one on there then it could be downloaded and used without the user knowing it is a virus.  Plus there have been numerous phone viruses.

Depends on how many checks you make that the programm is legit. Only run programmes from sites that you know have more to loose than gain from supplying you with a virus. I dont think i have every got to the stage where a virus scanner has stoped me from intalling a program with a virus in it, there have been false positves though. cellphones can only get viruses if you intentoally download the virus as well.

If your AV scanner has never stopped you installing a program with a virus in it ....then you really need to get a better AV scanner...;)
