Hello all, 2 Questions for the newbie!

Greetings Community,

I have two questions for you as shown in the title, the first one is, can I disable the music going from 'normal' music, into 'combat' music? At first it's fine, but sadly like most combat soundtracks in games, it gets annoying fast.

Second question is, how forgiving is the community towards new players online? Quite often when you advanture into the great unkown with no wins or losses, you almost never get into games because your the 'noob' even if you spend a while ( as in more then 24 hours ) on SP games.

I don't know if the transition music can be disabled or not, but

The MP community does not seem very welcoming.  It seems like they don't actually want to play, which is counter-productive concidering how few people play online anymore.

However, if you can get established and play a few games, you're pretty much gonna get into the majority of open matches.

And I'm not saying nobody will play with noobs.  Some people do.  I wouldn't even mind playing you sometime,  but sadly, my laptop died yesterday.:'(

Don't feel bad about all the time spent on single player.  Unless you are severely raping the AI, I don't feel that Multiplayer really has anything new to offer, except games that are over in less than an hour.

Bummer, well I got trinity, my longest game was a 12 hour session with 6 AI's and I hade one as ally later in the game, who ofcourse backstabbed me later on but didn't do much damage apart from -600 fleet points :annoyed:

I guess it has the same issue as Supreme Commander / Forged Alliance, awsome game, so little players.

I will try this week to see how it is online.

As for the ability with combat music, the only thing I found was that you can tick something with Volume x_x

( cool smilies, on this forum! )

I may be able to install it on my sister's computer, so I'll look for you.  What's your ICO name?  I believe mine is something along the lines of CallenExile.  IDK, I haven't been on in a while.

You could remove the sound if you wish by way of mod. Or changed it to something else by way of mod.

In terms of the online community, it depends on the people. Usually, if you're willing to self identify as a newbie (so they know you're not a smurf - a vet under a new name, often trying to stack teams) and are willing to communicate with your allies, most people will be ok with a newbie. Also, there are more new players out there, now, so it's easier for new players to integrate.

You can go to the Options -> Mods menu screen and click the file path to find the mods folder

Navigate to the mod folder (enable show hidden files and folders to see AppData)

Once in the mod folder, create a folder a name it "My Music" or something.

Copy (NOT CUT) the Sound folder from the SoaSE root folder and paste the folder into your mod folder.

Now you can edit or replace any event sound or music track in the ...\My Music\Sound folder and will play in game once you enable the mod.

I have 4 soundtracks for easy loading as a stackable mod because I to get tiered of the same music playing.

There are a few different sound editors that can convert to .ogg files. SoaSE uses 128kb/sec, 441000 stereo for music and 128kb/sec, 441000  mono for event sounds.

WinAmp is a free player that will play .ogg files.

Come try the online multiplayer game and just remember to bring a thick skin with you.  Many of the pros have stopped playing Sins and there are a number of newer players around.  In fact, I think we probalby have more new players around, as a percentage of all players online, than I have seen in a long time.  I think your best bet for finding the other newbies is regular Sins, but there are also new players in Diplomacy.

I disagree with Twilight Storm's take that multiplayer has nothing to offer.  It offers you real human opponents (instead of mindless buffed up AI with the strategic ability of a toaster), more challenging and more suspenseful games, and an added strategic element of team play.

This helped a lot! Thanks! No more ADHD combat music! :dur:

Ill try to get some matches going on monday or next weekend, I hope there will be people on and I hope that I can get on it myself. Time will tell!

But it seems okay, when I get a few posts rather quick!

Make sure people know you're a beginner in multiplayer.  We have no ways of knowing whether you're a beginner or an experienced player who just made a new account name.  Ensure the people you're playing with know your actual skill level so that everyone has the right expectations.  Some people will be jerks about playing with beginners, but that's their problem.  If you can get past that, the community is great and you'll enjoy your time here.

There are different times people get on and there of course is less on the weekdays.  Many players play offline for whatever reason.  If your having trouble finding members to play with try looking for tournys that happen on the weekend I think the DS team holds a tourny every weekend or so, with MOD of course.

Best time for online multiplayer for you are probably 21:00-04:00 (3:00 pm - 10:00 pm U.S. Eastern Standard Time).

Okay, hope to catch people then, quite late though but I will see, I shall try, it is worth it because it's a great game.

What MOD btw, I can probably find it but well, if someone hade time and I didnt yet, always welcome!

Found it, sounds interesting, hope it works well with AI too..

Again thanks darvin3

Speaking of the map compilation, I'd better get around to the third revision; I have a lot of pending maps and I've got to decide how we're going to manage all these submissions.  In the meantime, it's a highly recommended download.

@ Darvin3

Is there any maps similar to solor domination that could possibly be less than 100+ planets about 6 hours in game it gets a little slugish but its great for not having enemy forces bugging me all day.  The AI gets slaughtered when he jumps to my stars... hehe love the multi SB allowence in stars.  :)  .... although more would be nice....

We don't actually have too many multistars, unfortunately.  They're time consuming to make because galaxyforge lacks a copy/paste functionality.

Is this btw how it should look like when logging into ICO ?

Reason for asking is I've tried everyday at late GMT times and empty ( Including yesterday ((sunday) when DS orginised it )

Edit: For fun I added a player random name, and aperently it isn't the friends list but the list you use to play games ! O MY GOD !!!!

That's a surprisingly common mistake.

Are there users on and no one in the chat rooms?  See what happens is one you will see users online( how might be in a game) or the users online but playing vanilla or entrench or dip so to see them it does make a difference.... I think unless they fixed that issue.........  However there is almost always someone online take a screenshot of the empty room your in :)

It is fine now, thanks, I didnt know that you needed to make a name, ' Add Player'  I thought it was friend list... very strange that thing =)

Already got two matches, kind of laggy so far but at least human players are fun !

Im definatly gona try and look into the online part of sins now and then, just checked and where only 4 people online in the lobby, and apernatly there where 6 games, but they where hidden or something.
