Weird AI being defeated...

I'm a fairly new player, just purchased the Trinity version. While I was playing for the first time on Diplomacy on a large map setting with 6 normal difficulty AI players I noticed that some factions just end up stopping out of the blue. I was fighting one faction and then he just stops. He had 3 planets with ships but he was defeated? Then 2 factions become defeated as well. I was losing badly might I add and it was only me and him in the star system.

So is this normal? Or is this a bug?

I know computer players can surrender a game under certain conditions, but I've never noticed it on large maps. Check the diplomacy window and see if any of the faction pictures are cracked. If they are that means the probably surrendered.

The AI often surrenders after being soundly defeated.  Having ships or planets left means little if what they have is a few minor scraps.  By the time the AI does this, its ability to fight back is already virtually zero.

Sometimes AI just get a tad too busy with real life stuff, walk their AI dog, throw their AI ball around with the AI kids you know, pepi and his little daughter Butch Anderson. Then there's the other AI, you all know him.. Lets just say he's got some dents to work out of his car...

Basically yeah their economy has been shattered, they've been diplomatically embarassed, or cultural influence is so close to teetering that they only had a few minutes left... I honestly wish you could turn off their ability to surrender.

Play on smaller 1v1 scenarios, they virtually never surrender in these cases, to the point at which you can kill all their units and be bombarding their last planet and they STILL won't surrender.

End of Darvin3's quote

Thats uhh, not the point I wish you could set it off for when you play large games, typically never play 1v1...
