Complaint

I just want to say that as far as I am concerned ObjectDock SUCKS!!!!     I keep losing it everytime I reboot my computer and sometimes in between reboots.  I will be doing something and when i close out the program I am working on and go to the dock, It is not there. I also cannot get the weather info to load up. As far as downloading and installing new backgrounds, it is so hard to do that. I am very dissatisfied with this program. I wish I had never paid for the Plus and am going to remove this crap.

Do you have it set to start when Windows starts?

Is it set to hide off screen?

What's the zip or country you are trying to get weather for?

It's actually incredibly easy to install backgrounds.  You download the file.  EXTRACT the files.  You have to use extract or you'll probably mess it up.  Place the folder in your C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Backgrounds folder.  Simple really.

I have it set to start when windows starts.     It is set to hide off screen.      I have put in the correct zip and all it says is that it cannot find the feed-  check back later.       It says it will download into a certain folder but if it doesn't then you have to manually put it into a different folder. Can't it work right the first time???

For your weather feed, here's the solution. The problem is on the side of the weather feed, not ObjectDock.

1)Close down ObjectDock so that it is not running.

2)Open the folder where ObjectDock is installed (typically C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock) and find your 'stardockweather.ocx' file. Right click on it and select 'Rename' and rename it to 'stardockweather.ocx.bak' so that you can keep your original file preserved in case something goes horribly wrong.

3)Download this replacement stardockweather.ocx file:

http://sd.stardock.com/ken/stardockweather.ocx

and save it to your ObjectDock install folder (C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock). Open up ObjectDock and check the weather docklet.

As for your other problems, do you have OD+ or do you have the free OD?

Perhaps a look at the ObjectDock Wiki entry will also help you.  One thing to keep in mind before making unwarranted complaints is to check to see how many other people are having the same issues as you and if asking 'how do I do this?' to get help resolves your problem.

It depends on whether you are using a .dockzip file or a regular .zip file.  With the .zip file, you do what I instructed you to do.  This is the best way.  OD and OD+ work well for millions of people.  But, and this is important, you have to know what you are doing.  Saying something sucks just because it isn't working the way you want "right now!" isn't a good attitude to take.  Btw, what type of pc are you using this on?  What OS?

Being objective for a minute (I'm a huge OD+ fan), Stardock should include a "Readme.txt" with each software program it creates.

It should include the "How To", and the "Known Bugs" (which should also be on the purchase site) and both should be updated as things change in the software world. Yes, the Wiki is helpful, but honestly? Stardock is selling the software and is responsible for it. The Wiki isn't updated often enough, and say you bought any product: Wouldn't you expect it to come with legible and understandable instructions?

Ed and I spoke of these issues often, and I know he'd want me to represent his views on that topic (he just isn't well enough to do this himself at the moment), and he might have posted on this topic in the past: Sorry, but I just don't remember specifically.

In some cases you will need to copy the shortcut into the startup folder cause it doesn't al;ways work if you check the box in objectdock. Use the weather gadget in windows works flawless where stardock always disconnects or won't connect for me.

Also startbar replacement doesn't really work in Vista or Windows 7. Stardock claims OD+ 2 will fix all the bugs they have ignore for years in 1.0 the question is when will it come.

Not complaining just stateing a fact.

If you were running the free version and then installed the paid ("Plus") version, did you uninstall the free before installing the Plus?  You do need to do that. See reply #2 here for how to:

Also you might try disabling docklets to see if a docklet is causing a problem.  OD Config/General on left/Trouble shooting Options button on right/ "Temporarily disable all docklets".
