iTampon will destroy netbooks due to 'magic', according to Apple.

No, Cook said the iPad's magical properties will seal the deal. "The netbook is not an experience people are going to continue wanting to have," Cook said, according to Macworld. "When they play with the iPad and experience the magic of using it ... I have a hard time believing they're going to go for a netbook."

As for the topic at hand, it's clear Apple realizes their sales highly depend on the Reality Distortion Field they're able to project, and this is nothing but a (failed) attempt to increase its range. The loyalists continue to be loyal, the indecisive continues to not really care, and everybody else is still laughing at it. Their magic has convinced absolutely no one.

They had a segment on the iPad one of our early morning TV shows here in Oz (Sunrise, I think), and the host seemed to be none too impressed with it.  While he said that it looked pretty, it lacked features and functions he took for granted and were standard in his netbook.  He also expressed concern with regard to cost and value for money... "Is what you get really worth the outlay?"

While prices in Australia have yet to be officially announced, several industry commentators are tipping the 16gb model to start around $999 AUD, with the 64gb model's starting price likely to be around $1200 to $1300 AUD.

Hmmm, it's a bit too rich for me... besides having to buy a couple of pairs of new pants on top of it.

The iPad is the platform of choice for e-books. Apple launched their e-book service about the same time the device came out. It is targeted to old or middle aged people sitting on a couch and reading an e-book, browsing the net or listening to music.

It is not about the device, it's about the e-stores of Apple, get over it.

My realtor relative approves of I-pad ... but then again she wasn't going to get a netbook anyways, its just a better middle ground for her than either her Blackberry or her Laptop.

I have a feeling she was just looking at the screen-size though??
