No resolution options in all 3 Sins of a Solar Empire.

When I searched through google and impulse's search (so, the same thing), I found no solutions for this.

I have no options to change my resolution, or even "apply video settings" - and the res is so big that I cannot click the "back" button so I have to use CTRL+SHIF+ESC to bring up task manager and shut it down.

I meet the rec. specs, I am using a T.V. as my "monitor", I have an 8800 gts, and I am using Windows 7 as my OS (this was working fine when I had XP, but running in compatibility mode makes no difference) so I cannot find the user.setting file to edit.

Sorry if this is a repeat thread or anything like that, I have nowhere else to go. All help is appreciated.

OK I found out what the problem was and it turns out the only solutions I know of are to find a mod that I'm not even sure exists, or to buy a new T.V. or monitor (thankfully I have different ones I can use.)

It seems like Sins of a Solar Empire (and also, Supreme Commander has this issue too - when I launch the game it says "Unable to created Direct3D" when I use this T.V.) requires that you have a monitor that has resolutions with the ending being a MINIMUM of 768 pixels. (EX: 1024 x 768) - so if you have a monitor that goes up to 1400x900, it will still work with that resolution if you can also bring the res on the monitor down to [anything] x 768.

My T.V. is a 1080i LCD and it actually cannot get lower than 800 pixels, and cannot go higher than 720 pixels, so I cannot get any resolution to "768". I may try going to nVidia control panel and making a custom resolution, but for some reason I currently cannot get any resolution to 768, so using another monitor is my only known option.

Pretty weird oversight, how the heck did one of the most optimized and compatible games out there miss something as simple as resolution support? Yeah I can just use another monitor but man, SoaSE on a 40" screen sounds way more appealing.

I've never actually seen this particular problem before (TV as a monitor, etc), but you can try setting it to run in Windowed mode to see if that helps.  The settings files are located here in Windows Vista/7:

C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

Try editing the user.setting file (or diplomacy.user.setting) and changing this line:

VideoIsWindowed TRUE

to:

VideoIsWindowed FALSE

and see if that helps.  You can also try changing the resolution settings around and see what happens.
