Something is missing...

I think there is something lacking in SOASE. Dont get me wrong, i love the game, but i think something has been left out. After you colonize a large part of the solar system, the planets furthest from combat dont really have much use other than resource gathering and the odd relic or two. Everything except trading stations and ore reprocessors are basically useless. I know planets give money, metals and crystals, but it seems like a waste to leave those planets alone. I came up with the idea to choose how to colonize planets. Not large-scale like land based RTSes, but more along the lines of where the towns could be, what they would specialize in and a few landmarks like surface-to-space weapons and unique buildings like space elevators or interactive galactic trade centres. I know that Diplomacy may have some of the things i am talking about, because nobody knows exactly whats in the expansion. But i have a feeling something as large as this would not be introduced in a small expansion, it would take a new game version to implement. I also realize that this will not happen soon, because Diplomacy is coming in a few months, but maybe in Sins 2 some of my ideas might be considered.

Any thoughts about this?

I see your point, but I do know that none of it, besides the envoy cruisers, is in Diplomacy (I was in the beta and the expansions release date is.....already released for some, February 9th for everyone else as I understand it).  I do like the surface-to-space weapons idea, it kinda reminds me of when I played SW: EaW, with the ion cannon and hypervelocity gun.

If there was something I feel that there's missing from Sins, it's the use of planets that I take when I'm on the offensive, besides a few for producing ships on the front line.  I'm not wanting to be defensive, but I'm moving quickly enough that I don't exactly need any economic growth either.  They are just.....there, hardly anything more.  I hope they put more stuff to do planet/gravity-well wise in the next expansion (not micro, they are done with those) or the hopeful sequel.
