Dear community members,

I just purchased this game and cannot for find the patch anywhere! The Stardock auto update takes me to an out of date site, and when searching for the patch on line via search engines all I can find are 'crack' sites that want you to sign up! I have a purchased legit version but cannot get the patch updates??? Can any one help please.

regards,

Tony

Download Impulse..a quick google will be all you need to find it. Download, install then got to register game. Input serial and an email and away you go.

Impulse is you one stop updater and online store. All games published/developed through Stardock use Impulse to patch games.

It's pretty easy.

Simply get Impulse and use it to register the game. Once done you can use Impulse to update the game or even download the whole thing via the My Games tab.

I'm on Impulse and registered and received an update, but my version is 1.53. Shouldn't it be 2.0x? Everytime I go back on implulse it doesn't give me the option to update.

The 2.0+ updates only apply to Dark Avatar and Twilight of the Arnor. 1.53 is the most recent version of Dread Lords.

Drat! Alas, foiled by the Dread Lords once again...

This is my first message here, so a big "hello" to everyone :)

I've also recently purchased the retail version for Galactic Civilizations II: Ultimate Edition (in fact, I'm still waiting for it, because it is sent to me using postal services), and I thought that it would be packed with the up-to-date version (or at least including the last patches on the media), but reading this thread, I suspect that it will be an outdated version that should need be patched.

So that, please, could someone tell me if I would be able to install the updated version of the game in an offline computer?

The box has been purchased in a Game online store, and I've already read about the offline activation and registration process, but I haven't found anything about offline updates.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

SCampos

Hi again,

After reading some threads more, this is what I've understood that I need to have updated GalCiv2 Ultimate Edition in an offline computer:

1) I should install GalCiv2 and activate/registrate it using the related offline-procedure.

2) Then I need to install Impulse in a computer with Internet access (my current online computer doesn't meet the requirements -it's an old AMD K7 750MHz-, but I can borrow for a 1,60GHz netbook for sure) and using my registration data, download there the updates and patches.

3) Simply copy all those downloaded files/folders to the offline dad's home computer.

But I've some questions. Please, could someone help me?

a) Will I need to install the game before in the computer where I need also to install Impulse? If so, would this mean a problem, having in mind that I will have activated/registered previously the game in another computer (the offline one)?

b ) (edited, for that smiley) I've read that very likely I'll need to edit some registry things... Could someone please address me to the related info? I've already used the forum search feature, but didn't find anything in regards to that.

Thanks in advance.

Your best bet might be to use Impulse Anywhere (http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/).  If you purchased the game from a retailer, you'll need to register the game through Impulse to your account on the Internet enabled computer first.  Once you've done that, log into the site, download the files, and then you can transfer them to the other computer, and install it from there.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I've done exactly as you have commented, installing Impulse in a computer with Internet access, and registering GalCiv2UE using the serial number included in the box manual (BTW: Impulse has failed and closed twice. I've sent a report to Stardock, reference number: 801216). Then I've accessed to Impulse Anywhere from Firefox, using the same account and I've seen there GalCiv2UE, and the possibility for download a full offline and updated installable copy (version 2.03.007).

That's the nice part.

Now the ugly one: I'm downloading those files but it's going too slow, at about 80KB/s (and the total download is about 2GB in size!!), so it will be a task for some hours. Moreover, some parts are failing time to time (luckily, the download is not an enormous lonely file, but eight parts), because they can't be read from the server according to the firefox error message.

But, in spite of being an uncomfortable and disproportionate process for a simple update, that's better than nothing I suppose :)

I'll post again when I'll be able to install GC2UE in the offline computer (surely this weekend), if I find any kind of problems with unlocking and activatig this Impulse 2GB self-extract thing.

Thanks again.

Edit PS/ As a suggestion, please add MD5 checksums to those big files to ensure at that very moment if they've been correctly downloaded. Thanks.

Unfortunately you will only get decent speeds using Impulse, rather than Impulse Anywhere.

I will suggest including MD5 checksums on the Impulse Anywhere page. Thank you for your feedback.

I'm not certain this post is in the right place, but I am in need of help. I seem to be having problems with impulse. I used the serial number on the back of my manual to try to update to 2.03 for my ultimate editon of GalCiv II. It says the number is invalid. I put it in *exactly* as it says four times. The problem may be with my purchase via Ebay. The seller listed the item as "new". But as I read somewhere, the serial number is on the back of the case? Hmm.

*Glances at case*

No, nothing here. The only thing that remotely resembles a serial number is this: D7C7B-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

(30 characters plus dashes). As stated, it is on the back of my manual right below the Sins of a Solar Empire logo and bald dude. Did I get jipped out of an unused copy or am I just looking in the wrong place? I *really* need to update so it will stop crashing.

Regards.

That's definitely the serial code, it's in the same place on my manual (Kalypso version). Give it a few more tries and try to vary characters that can look very similar depending on the font used (like 8 / B and 7 / T). If it still doesn't work, either the code has already been used or it's faulty somehow.

Make sure you're only using numbers (0-9), and the letters A-F.  The dashes are needed as well.  If it's still not working, send an email to support@stardock.com and we'll get it worked out for you.
