Well, I've played as TEC many times, but the Akkan is the only ship they have that I don't get.  It just doesn't ever seem to be anything I would ever use, yet some players swear by it.  The following is what I note:

Hull/Shields: Average..  Nothing special here...

DPS: High for a colonizer, only slightly below the Kol.

Colonize: I do see the value in this.  Sure, its not a huge cost reduction, but it is nice nonetheless.

Ion Bolt: Its a good interrupt and can potentially act as an interrupt or PJI, but aside from that I don't see how it could really be considered a cap killer.

Targeting Uplink: I see very little point in this ability unless in an asteroid field or when facing off massed SC.

Armistice: So you can retreat an otherwise worthless cap?  This doesn't really do anything..  It just hits pause.  You can argue that it gives you a bunch of time for reinforcements, but I don't really think that a minute is going to do all that much...

 

I don't know..  Whenever I try using this ship, it never really seems to be worth anything other than colonizing.  Aside from that, I feel like I wasted a bunch of credits and resources.  Any explanation as to why Ion Bolt is better than I'm making it out to be or how TU is worth anything would be appreciated..

Yes, but equally limited.  I think it should be able to target a different class of ship.  idk.  They must have had a good reason.  Is one ship type easier to level than others, maybe?  I'd think battlships and carriers...maybe people were building these, then letting them die and replacing them with high level support/siege caps...expnsiv, but tricky and resourceful if you have the econ...

NEW COLONISE: The shining beacon of hope that TEC players had been waitign for a LONG BLOODY TIME. Combine the akkan's colonise with the teir1 and tier2 metal and crystal extration rates very early in teh game and you have a substancial econ bost to build your self a decent enought military and build a redimentary econ that will help carry you into the mid game. Basicly the Colonise of the akkan now allows you to play like a TEC player should have always played. A bit fo econ with more military. Enemies simply can'T blindly rush you and make you fold over in minutes now.

Ion Bolt: Awesoem for killign fleeing enemy caps. Wish the cool down was 0.5 seconds shorter thou since lag often allows the enemy ship to jump out.

Armistice: Mostly viewed as a defencive abilaty for running away and ofthen ignored as and ofensive abilaty but it is offensive as well.

Targetign uplink: Like mentioned in erlier it greatly help flak in reguler grav wells since flak is the only unit in the game that has a chanse to miss it's target. The range bonus is also usefull for killing SBs and shit from very far away. But where this abilaty truely shines in in neutral astroid feilds where all ships have a 20% chance to miss. The Akkan nulifies this to only 5% chance to miss. Buttom line you end up with 15% more DPS then you enemy if you have and Akkan and they don't. I made quite a few people pay dearly a fight with me in and astroid belt even when I was out numbered 2 to 1. Add a SB on your side with resupply and the enemy can just forget about fighting your fleet there.
