Fences on WinXP 32 bit machine invisible (WIN7 64 bit OK!)

What the...

Hi,

I've been using fences for a few weeks now on WIN7 64 bit and largely without issue.  On a WINXP 32 bit machine it fails to work, I have tried your latest download as well as the exact same version I'm using on WIN7.

The fences appear in your GUI but not on the actual desktop.  Some of the icons are also display bluish (possibly as if selected), I don't think I did this...

At times I have managed to get the fence title to partially display for a while so my guess is that fences may be drawing it and explorer following up by overwriting it.

Any ideas?  This sounds like a fences problem that I saw reported (somewhere...) about the middle of last year...

Thanks,
Dennis

Do you have Deskscapes installed on the XP machine, or are you using ActiveDesktop?

Do you have icons hidden? Right click the desktop -> View, and be sure "Show desktop icons" is enabled.

Otherwise, right click on the desktop, click "Customize Desktop", click the "Web" button and be sure everything is unchecked here.

p.s. I'll save Neil the need to blow his own horn -- DeskScapes is great.

I'll check at work (if possible, lots of stuff locked out although I am local admin) about the show desktop icons but am unsure what that does, if it helps I have millions of icons hence the need for fences.

As for my working WIN7 machine for about a week it started doing something similar when I logged on (no icons visble at all though) and has now fixed itself.  While it was occuring I found the solution was: Right Click Desktop->Configure fences->Tools->Take Snapshot" and fences would then display the icons you can then cancel out of the snaphot and for that logged on session never have another issue.

It would appear that whatever fences does its very fragile.

I wish the forum would send me email alerts on relies....

Thanks for the replies,

Dennis

Would it be possible to post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

OK the issue on my 64 WIndows 7 machine is back again and if I took  screenshot you'd only see the normal background without any icons, as soon as I prepare to take a snapshot the icons are displayed and its OK until the next time I restart computer/logon again (1 restart = 1 logon for me).

This is mainly what I was referring to.
