Wrong Mindset

The whole idea that consumers have rights to be presented with products and services of any specific quallity is fundamentally flawed. As long as there's a clear enough warning label that you're not being suckered into buying something with a quallity you reasonably expected it not to have, a product can be whatever the producer sees fit. The producer is not bound to produce one thing or another according to your rights, the rights of their consumers. They have the right to produce whatever they want, and why not? Simply producing something is not impeding in anyone's rights, because the consumers have the free choice not to buy that product. So stage boycotts, if you want to make a big difference. Make them realize that it would be to their advantage to provide a better product or service. Litter them with mail, and stop buying their stuff. This whole "bill of rights" thing is nothing but procrastination in disguise. You just want to vent your complaints and irrationally pretend that your efforts are being invested into anything productive. This "bill of rights" sounds very nice, but when you think about it it doesn't actually make any sense.

I think you come at this with the wrong mindset.

  • Do you not expect food you buy to be of a certain quality and freshness?
  • Do you not expect electronics you buy to be properly shielded as to not interfere with other devices?
  • Do you not expect medical services you receive to be properly suited to your symptoms?

This list could be endless. The truth is that there are ALWAYS expectations of quality. The Gamer's Bill of Rights is one opinion of what that level should be.

The PC game industry (and software industry in general), has had a free reign to do whatever they want to their consumers under the auspices of the EULA, including: denying the doctrine of first sale (and in many cases even denying a refund at point of sale), installing harmful, additional software onto your computer, arbitrarily disabling access, disallowing re-installations (even on the same computer), disallowing the consumer's ability to use the product on more than one computer and other stupid crap like requiring an online connection for single player games.

After a while, this kind of abject mistreatment is going to elicit a response.

Of course, your whole post goes completely off the rails with the nigh unintelligible "procrastination" bit...
