Would like a detailed explanation of ObjectDock INI settings/values

I made some ObjectDocks (to go with skins I've posted) by copying INI files from other docks and tweaking them.  I couldn't figure out exactly how the settings work and ended up using trial and error until I got something half-decent.  I would love to get a detailed explanation of the settings so I can get the alignments just right.  I'm only interested in Zoom, Tabbed, and Tile styles.  Is there a developer/skinner's guide somewhere? (not a tutorial, I've figured out the basics)

Go to your Objectdock folder. In there is a text file called "SkinningTheDock". That's how I learned what I know about them....and looking at other dock .ini files....and asking questions.

The best way to see what the .ini settings do is create a dock and then exagerate each particular setting amounts to see what happens. And if like you said you have the basics figured out thats half the battle. The rest is just changing settings on any particular dock till you get what you want.

For most docks you can cookie cutter your .ini file and just tweak it a bit here and there. For docks using textures or anything other than just plain one color backgrounds you'll be ripping your hair out to make them work. I'm not saying it can't be done...just that you'll have less hair. XD And if your using any of my most recent.ini files from my docks you can pretty much just tweak things a bit. As far as tiles or single drawer docks you can bug Messiah...he does those more than me. |-)

Thanks guys.  The "SkinningTheDock" info really helped and with a little bit more hair pulling X|   I figured out just what I needed to do.  :D

I always send my docks to Xiandi after I've played with them for a while. She has more hair to pull out than I do

Hello, just like the OP, I know the basics and made a few backgrounds, tiles and indicators already. And I'd also like a detailed explantion, but it seems I do not have a SkinningTheDock.txt file in any Objectdock folder (Through Program Files\, Documents\ or any of the User\ directories). I Just downloaded and installed it yesterday afternoon. Any help would be appreciated.

This is what I do. I go to a dock folder that would fit my need the most. Usually it's one by WebGizmos! I make a folder called orginal. I copy everything into it. The orginal dock is safe. Then I'll either go into the WB folder or rainy folder or make a screenshot of parts of the WB. Whatever works best for getting the graphics for the dock. Then you can use photoshop or paint.net or gimp or even paint to manipulate and tweak. I use the copy to work with. As far as the ini file goes what WebGizmos says is what I've ended up doing. Trial and error. For the most part this has worked for me. ^_^

Thanks for the offer Xiandi, but Disturbed sent it via pm shortly before his last post.

After completely reskinning a few game GUIs, it wasn't too hard to figure these settings out. They all did what I thought they did, but it's always nice to have the assurance/doumentation.

/Cheers
