Windows 7 Live Folders

Hi...

I have a little problem with IP5 and Windows 7.  It happened with IP4 so I thought perhaps upgrading to IP5 would fix it but it hasn't.

I have selected custom icons for Live Folder (Back, Front and Data) but in Explorer, the folder icons are not displaying correctly.  It seems the 'front' icon appears at the same time as the 'Data' icon so it looks kinda screwy.

I hope i've explained well enough what the problem is...if not the screenshots below should help :)

IP Settings

Folders

I would be grateful if anyone could suggest a fix or workaround please.

Thank you.. :)

On your top picture go to left column restore default icon and use drop down to restore to windows default while having problem ones on right highlighted - mainly front, bacl and live ones. Do this to set all back to default before changing to a new theme.

Thanks for the reply Ausvet.  I tried you suggestion but i'm still having the same problem.  Have tried various combinations for the live folder icons but it happens to all of them except for the default windows icons.

If you, or anyone else have any other suggestions, I would be very grateful.

Thanks again.

Hi all,

I am using Win 7 (french language) with iconPackager 5.00.021 (downloaded from impulse). When IP install a new set of icons it makes modifications directly inside c:\windows\system32\imageres.dll ... original size and date changed in my Win 7.

When IP reverts to the original set of icons it's unable to restore the original file structure of imageres.dll. I guess that because size of imageres.dll isn't the same as the original + original live folders icons are missing !! Exploring live folder data (no 153) inside imageres.dll I noticed the icon of the previous theme is still present and used by IP. Looking inside IP all the live folders are blank and didn't work to change them manually.

The work around I've found is to rename imageres.dll into imageres.old and then copy from a backup the original untouched imageres.dll. After that open IP and in the settings rebuild the icon cache.

I hope stardock will fix this annoying issue some day ...

Go to a command prompt and type sfc /scannow  - then press enter - wait for that to finish, then close command prompt and you will need to restart the computer. After you have restarted the computer try icon packager again to apply your icons. After applying the icons; log off and back in again to check that the explorer has been refreshed and all icons are wronging as should be.

This problem has been going on with Vista 64 since it was released, and now the problem persist into Win 7 64.  It is time to recectify the problem. We shouldn't have to rework the register, or do "command prompts."

Please Stardock, fit this problem.  It appears to only happen in 64 bit mode.  My laptop (32 bit) does not have this problem, nor is it a problem on my iMac 24 funning Win 7 32 bit in boot camp.

Thank you

I'm having the same problem as the original poster vista-guy and I'm using IP v5.00.021

and Win7 x64. Like vista-guy said, the live folders appear correctly in the IP preview screen

but not in explorer. Please look at the following pictures (Flash Live IconPackage):

Preview in IP:

As seen in Explorer:

In the above pic, "CursorFX", "DesktopX" and "IconPackager" folders have only folders inside

them, not documents. Therefore, Windows decides to use the "Work" live folder icon (the fourth

icon in the first image). The problem is the "Front" icon for Live Folders is also applied when it

shouldn't be.

Now there are three possible solutions that I can think of:

  • One is for IconPackager to make sure that the "Front" icon is not applied to "Work" live folders. However, this may not be possible if it's the way Windows works.
  • The second is to edit the "Work" icon from the icon package folder and offset the icon somewhat to the left so that it overlaps with the "Front" icon. Again, this may not be possible on all packages since the "Work" icon may not be similar to the "Front" icon as is the case with the "Flash Live" package in the screenshots. Still, I was able to do this on "Diamond" and a couple other packages.
  • The third solution is for icon package developers to make sure that their "Work" icons overlap properly with the "Front" icon. For example, packages like "Quest" and "Think Green" don't have this live folder problem.

Just checking if anybody had an update on the problem. I've had this problem ever since Windows 7 (x64), but I'm not really sure it is limited to 64-bit systems, since the same thing happened to me once in a Vista x86. Of course, IP was in a much earlier version, and perhaps it was fixed for x86 in more recent versions, but in Windows 7 x64 the problem persists. I really want to download IP5 beta, but the hassle I had reverting back after IP screwed my folders, I really don't want to take the plunge anymore without really being sure.

Also, from chillychan's latest post, is it true that this is not a problem for other icon packages? I mean, from what I understand, it might be an issue with the icons itself then?

When applying a new Front-Back-Live Folders icons, Live Folder icon should be image without front icon, but together with back icon, if you want to see how this look like check some of my live folders works on my DA site : http://pianoart.deviantart.com/ , download the file and you will see how it looks three icons that should be changed.

Hopefully this helps

Hi ! yes i´, here too :)

I don´t know what Backup-Folder is doing exactly, but, everytime you change icons with IP, the program makes BackUP Folder automaticly by default. Nothing special actualy, but you can delete him, nothing happens, if it really disturb you :))).

Maybe someone else here on WC knows better answer.
