zomg....

So after waiting two full days to get a problem straightened out for my Elven Legacy serial, I finally downloaded it (took about 5 hours!) and when it installed I got a "decompression error."  I retried it a few times, closed it, opened it, and then suddenly it started over.

Is there anything I can do to prevent another error or was this likely an anomaly?

PS Wow....last May I bought and downloaded Sins and it was a snap.  I got it fast, it downloaded fast, and worked perfectly.  I'm glad I had that positive experience because I'm not sure I want to keep doing business with Stardock if this is routine now.

Do you have any security applications running? This type of error is most often caused by a security application interfering with the downloaded file. If a single bit is off, it will fail the md5 check (to ensure the file is intact).

Also, we've seen several times in the past (happened to someone here in the office, too) where bad system memory can cause MD5 errors as well.  You could try scanning with something like memtest86+ (free, works great) and see if that might be the problem.

Hmm i got a blue screen of death and a Win 7 message about potentially faulty memory.  That is probably it.  I'll check out the mem test program ty.

No security apps running besides the default Windows one.  I did get a blue screen of death yesterday and today during the download so that would explain the errors.  But...the system and memtest86+ (v 4.0) came back 100% clean.

Unfortunately every time it fails it restarts the download so I have no downloaded it 3 times (5 to 6 hours download each time) to have it fail.  Is there a way to get a direct download link?

I think I'd be more concerned with that than worrying about trying to attempt a download yet again.

If you have a hardware issue that explains a great deal of the issues you are attributing to Stardock and/or Impulse.

The reality is that 'most' people have no issue with Impulse downloads, yet you are having them frequently.  Have you tried an alternate computer...to remove/eliminate your potential hardware faults from the equation?

Actually, if you read my post carefully, I didn't attribute this problem to Stardock and/or Impulse.  My three days of trying to get a serial number was certainly due to Stardock - and even now I can't get it to email me my serial number through the automated process (although I can right click it and see it in Impulse).

That said, this problem was certainly on my end.  It is resolved now - I don't think it was a memory problem.   I disabled Windows Defender (per the initial troubleshoot) and downloaded it without issue.

The only issue I have now is that the game has some gibberish in some of the quest text - random text symbols.  but that is a different post.

This was a glitch in our system due to fraud checks.  This should now be resolved.
