Digital Stores and Gifting

Tis the Season After All

All right here is a question for you gentlemen, and the handful of women that might be around of course. It's the season of gifting, and as a gamer, games are often at the top of the list for my fellow gamers. I've said before that I prefer retail boxes for a lot of reasons, and they look pretty under the tree too, but for my distant relatives and for price and practical reasons, sometimes digital might be aok except, I can't find a way to gift via Steam, Impulsue or Direct2Drive and company in a delayed fashion, you know, so the email goes out on a certain date... is this really not possible, still? I don't want my christmas presents to show up in emails tonight. That would be running over the turkey in a fashion that irritate even me, and I don't often get irritated with early holiday displays.

I asked about this last Christmas.

Unfortunately it still appears like Impulse does not support delayed delivery on gifted items.  As part of a group who strongly endorse digital distribution, digital gifting was kind of a theme for last year's Christmas.  What I ended up doing was setting up a free email account for anyone I wanted to gift to.  I then gifted to this email address and gave the recipient a game shaped empty box containing a boxart printout of what was purchased and the email account details.

Not ideal, but it's an option for those of us who want to help eliminate the superfluous brick and mortar middlemen and more directly support developers.

Stardock, please support delayed gifting before Christmas! :)

Agreed:pout: But I do like your method of giving a box with the info inside. Because unwrapping things is way more fun than just checking an e-mail:P

Agree. Delayed gifting is a must for me. I guess I'll stick to my usual then, Amazon and BM stores for my game/software gifting. And yeah, not a lot of fun involved in opening up an e-mail but I was ready to settle if i could date it :hugme:
