SLOW in HUGE resolutions - ANY SOLUTION?

I have downloaded and installed the latest ObjectDock 1,90 under windows xp sp3.
I have lately updated my monitor and turned the resolution to 2500x1600

Having used it in lower seolutions, I'noticed an dramatic slower performance !!

The dock hiddens and show up with an animation speed that turns too jurky.

Having tests the latest version of Nexus from Winstep, nexus is MUCH much smother on conjuction in tha same setup!!

Is there a known speed issue of ObjectDock ?

Does anyone know of a workaround that smooths things out ?

No, I don't, but have found just the opposite. on 1920x1080p, My Workshelf ends up in the middle of the screen.

How much RAM do you have, tristratos?

It might be several things.

I'm by no means any expert but more information about your system would help in solving the problem.

CPU, RAM, video/graphics card are more than likely where the problem maybe.  You may not have enough resources to handle that size of a resolution.  It might have something to with refresh rates.

Someone will come along with the correct solution to your problem.

Do you have the dock's background transparency set all the way to opaque?  Might help.  Dock Settings/Appearance on the left side, On the right side Background section Transparent-Opaque slider about 3/4's the way down, slide the setting all the way to the right on "Opaque".

Make sure the "use more ram" setting is enabled, and you have the newest display drivers for your card.

I'm using a setup 3x as large as yours and I have no speed problems like you are experiencing.

I am using Windows Xp sp3, Penitum 4, 3.06 HyperThreading, ATI Radeon v4650 1GB,System Ram 2 GB, Driver : Catalyst 09.10
Please note that the system is running flawlessly. Even NextStep nexus is running fine in 2500x1600 resolution!!

Objectdock has a MAJOR speed slowdown in autihiding and showing mode. The scalup of icons run fine from there on. But if I bumb down the screen to show the dock, the animation that shows it off is quite jurky.

I've tried seting the opaque to non transparent and both setting in performace option, but nothing did help.
The autohiding and bumbp2show animation is VERY slow in conjuction to NextStep's Nexus on the SAME machine!!

ANYONE ?

Just that Nexus works differently than Object Dock.

I know that nexus works differently from ObjectDock and that is the reason why I am trying to find out why ObjectDock refuses to run flawlessly in bug resolutions....

I would say try stardock tech support, tristratos. They're pretty good.

I am  having the same problem, when i mouse over to auto unhide, its slow and jerky and will actually slow down and make the opening apps jerky as well. I just started having this problem when i changed vid cards. Still ATI cards  and Catalyst drivers but i think its a driver issue. I went from and Asus 4670 card to  XFX HD-487A-ZHFC Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX  and thats when the fun started. bloody proprietary drivers for these cards :p

Still its very annoying and i have tried uninstalling and redoing my Catalyst drivers, using the latest now and no love yet. Still looking for ideas

thnx

Make sure the "use more ram" setting is enabled

and check your shortcuts and docklets. When there's problems with OD, 9 times out of 10 it's due to a docklet. I've noticed network links can cause a bit of a delay if there's a lag in network response also.

Zoobabe, I have the same card on one of my systems w/Windows7 and see 0 performance issues. I'm not using the XFX drivers but the 9-25-2009 Catalyst drivers.

Lantec, Yes i think ill give those catalyst drivers a try tho they are the same size. I dont think they are installing correctly becasue i cannot get the CCC to run at all. I will check all my docklets too as its only the tabbed dock that i have autohiding on the bottom that is giving me problems, the regular dock that comes with OD ( my computer. music etc ) is fine, just the tabbed dock that i use to group and launch my programs is being a pita. (I have 2 docks loaded and running)

I'll post back

Tristatos, you might want to look at upgrading your OS as well.  I have found the Vista and now Windows 7 to handle my ultra large resolutions (3-4x as large as yours) MUCH faster and smoother (since I run about a million aps modifying the desktop, etc.) than ever under XP.  I know that is of little comfort to you, but seriously, it's really night and day.

For all i hvae properly installed  the latest ATI drivers and still the problem persists. I did notice that with NO ATI specific  drivers installed , this problem dissapeared. Excalpius, yes yes we would all  like to upgrade to W7 but lets be reasonable here, that is hardly a solution. I conclud it is either as Lantec suggests, dock contents or ATI driver issues. ATI has given SD problems in the past with apps. FWIW I also run winstep and Nextstart with all my SD apps and always have. I guess I will have to put in a support ticket.

*update* i found that  the best way around this problem is to undock ( not use 'show dock as drawer'  option) my tabbed dock,  no more herky jerky

For the record, this is often (though, granted not exclusively) why XP + High Res = slow with ObjectDock.  XP wasn't designed with such large resolutions in mind, so the larger you go, the rougher it gets.  I can't speak to why tristratos was having better luck with Nexus Dock, as I don't know much about how they do things. What I do know, is that for Vista/7, Microsoft rewrote the parts of Windows that ObjectDock uses to be significantly more efficient at higher resolutions.

If anyone is having problems, though, please contact us at support@stardock.com and we'll do everything we can to get things working as fast as possible.
