3-Depth Dock Idea....
By the way, I'm willing to do some foreground on this dock if anyone has a good idea.
Thanks!
G3.

I would like to give you a suggestion but it looks very good the way it is now.
It looks good.. no suggeston(s) but I would like to know the code used to make the Icons have an reflection on the dock.
thanks.
I did not use a code for icon reflection. I make the reflections myself using photoshop CS4. However, automatic icon reflection would be a pretty cool feature for objectdock.
It will be there in OD 2.0.

1. It's hard to tell where your light source is coming from. The use of "glossiness" is kind of sporadic and everywhere. It seems like the light source ought to be above and behind. In that case, the front "ledge" ought to be a bit darker, instead of lighter.
2. The feet on the lower left and right sides look kind of off.
Looks very promising! I've noticed you tend to be pretty creative in your works. ![]()
looks a bit coffee table'y
Thanks for the feedback everyone!! Brian, I myself am confused about the lighting so I'm going to work on that. However I made the bottom of the dock a little more "stable." Is this better?

lol
Better. ![]()
I like.

oh cool .. so when you get this dock up and I put icons on the dock I then will not have reflections right ? if so that sucks but still looks good to me
I can see what he's saying, thing is, a lot of UI, dock, skinning work imo is about stylizing and not so much realizing. In other words, sometimes the actual light source(s) and lighting paramaters when done.. correctly.. may not look as good as something that was styled. It doesn't look bad to me looking at it from a styleized view point. In other words if you lost the highlights in the foreground, it may be more correct.. yet.. may not look as good.. as a dock.
Losing the legs is also an improvement.

it really looks good ! !
... maybe just for me, brainstorming on creating my first foreground with colored shadows, it seems only missing "some" shadow ![]()
Okay, next idea. I've added on some side-walls to the dock. I could possibly add a backdrop too. Does this look better than the original? Or is it better to keep it simple this time? Or I could always upload both at the same time....

interesting, is that the actual dock or a PS mockup? didnt know u could put sides on docks like that... and yes, frankell hit on something, could use a wee bit if soft dropshadowing.
Yes, that is the actual dock. I have actually made a few docks with sides like that. I'll work on a little drop shadow.
Lookin' pretty good... keep brainstorming--I like your ideas. ![]()
Kinda looking like a TIE Fighter; is that Vader's fighter? ![]()
Looking great! I hope you're going to include both versions when you upload...
I'm planning on including 3 different styles when I eventually upload this project (unless I come up with another
. I will also include the PSD files so you can edit it if you want. This is the third style I will include:

Cool! ![]()
Very neat idea ![]()
I like the idea, I think the back and sides are def. too tall though as it stands.
I already submitted the skin this morning.......If a lot of people feel the same way I will update it. Also, keep in mind that my icons are smaller due to the reflective effect. Normal icons will appear larger than mine.
I expect this will be in the objectdock gallery by tonight!! ![]()
good enough
.. great job on implementing feedback ![]()
... you can have any dock lateral image just setting to stretch only the .png central pixels:
play with the .ini file > (OutsideBorderLeft \ OutsideBorderRight for BackgroundTop + Bottom positions)
(OutsideBorderTop \ OutsideBorderBottom for BackgroundLeft + Rigth positions)
let's say the image is 710 pixels try to leave around 350 pixs as border ! ![]()
