Fences refuses to install

Following a report on cnet, I discovered and downloaded Fences 1.0. I am running win xp pro on 2 pc's. On 1st pc, installed dotnetfix 2.0 then needed to install fences a couple of times. After 1st installation, error msg said that app failed to start because configuration incorrect, reinstalling may fix the problem. After a couple of installs and uninstalls, Fences icon appeared and app works fine.

On my 2nd pc, same error message. Uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted many times but still get the same above error msg. Couldn't find any reference to anyone else running into the same problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated

For 'official' support you should email support@stardock.com.

Hi Hankers,

Why am I kicked out when I report a problem? Isn't this the purpose of this forum? to report difficulties and see if other members ran into that same problem and hope that someone up the chain will read about them and hopefully bring corrections in a future version?

Guess what! "Official support" advised me that since Fences is Freeware, there is no support for it and that I will have better luck and faster response on this forum!!!! I suggest that some Super Moderator access "Official support", if that's possible, so that we can stop the ball from bouncing back and forth.

Furthermore, I was bluntly told that if installation did not work, I should forget about using Fences.

Since I discovered Fences thru recommendation from CNET, I think it is only proper to report to them the fact that Stardock has absolutely no support for it and that users have to rely exclusively on the experience of other users to solve their problems.

End of quote

I don't see where you were 'kicked out'. You asked for suggestions and as nobody has responded yet, then it is probalbly because no member here has had that issue and therefore cannot offer a suggestion.

When you emailed support@stardock.com and requested assistance, did you receive a trouble ticket number? You should have and if you post that ticket number I will see why you received a response of 'no support'.

There is 'no ball bouncing back and forth'.

Here is the response I received

#KYQ-798173 Fences error message

Due to the beta status of this application, and that it is provided for no cost, Fences is not supported by Stardock Technical Support. If you are having issues with Fences, please visit the WinCustomize forums (forums.wincustomize.com) or join our irc channel (irc.stardock.com #stardock) for community support. If you are unable to resolve the issue, and uninstalling/rebooting/reinstalling does not fix your issue, we apologize, but we simply recommend that you uninstall and do not use Fences.

did you use a stand alone installer or download & install via Impulse?

If you used a stand alone version I would recommend trying Impulse....you can uninstall it once you get fences running correctly. The version available thru Impulse will be the latest.

If you used Impulse and had this issue I would recommend you disable anti-virus and anti-spyware during the installation and then re-enable after installation.

As of today, Fences 1.0 is officially supported by Stardock technical support.  Keep in mind that this is still a freeware app, so we cannot go into the kind of detail we would with something like WindowBlinds or other Object Desktop applications.

supermanx1a: I have reopened the ticket and requested some information from you in regards to this issue.  Please check your e-mail.
