Feature Request: Fences in Explorer

Fences is great on the desktop: I would love it if it were avaialble in my Explorer panes, perhaps as a View Type (i.e. Tile, Large Icon, Small Icon, List, Detail, etc.).  Fences could be organized on a per-folder basis, but you could have "templates" set up for certain folder types, sets of folders, etc.

Alternatively, if you could display the contents of a folder as a Fence, that'd be great as well.

E.g. Folder A has Folders A1, B1, and B2 in it.  If Folder A is set to "Fences" View, then Folders A1, B1, and B2 display as Fences, and show their contents.

I'm curious as to whether this would be possible without a great deal of work?

What would be the use of this (using fences inside explorer windows)? I can see the use of displaying a folder as a fence, but i don't get the first request.

Picture a folder with 10 sub-folders, all with a dozen or so files.  It would be helpful to see the contents of those 10 folders simultaneously, but without having 10 separate windows open.

Having it in Explorer just makes it one less app to deal with.  Having "Fence" be a type of View just seemed to make the most sense.

In another thread, what I'm really getting after is a way to break the Huge Folder Hierarchy metaphor.  If Fences could display tag associations...that'd be the king of all.

This feature request comes up a lot with Fences.  After talking with Jeff about it, don't expect this to be added any time soon.

How about turning Fences into an alternative to Explorer?  See my wish for a tagging, tag relationship building file/document management system.

Fences works well because it's simple.

There are other programs which are alternatives to Explorer and are file/document management systems. Going down this path would put it up against some solid competition.

Fences is useful because it's simple and does it's job well. :inlove:

This is kind of the idea, and why we won't be making Fences do everything and the kitchen sink.

Fair enough.  If anyone does come up with a Fences view in Explorer, though, I'm there with my wallet.
