CD-ROM driver help please

CD-ROM driver help please

I recently had to do a system restore on my computer and I got most everything back to the way it was. But when i was trying to install a game i found out that my DVD/CD-ROM does not read the disc or doesn't do anything for that matter. When i go in to my computer and try to open the disc from there the my computer menu freezes up. Come to find out I had forgotten i switched out my old CD-ROM for a better one and I'm thinking i need to reinstall the driver but I can't find the CD that came with it.

I pulled out the CD-ROM and got the model number and maker of the product and whent to their website to see if i could find the drivers to download. What i found was just firmware for the model I have so my question is. If I download the firmware off their website will that file contain the driver that I need to use my CD-ROM with no problems? If not than is there a trustworthy website that might have said driver?

Thanks in advance for any help/info you toss my way.

Well that's partially true, although none of my drives has ever gone belly-up on me. Not like the harddrives. I've got one optical drive pushing ten years now, two more around the 5 year mark.

I've pulled dozens apart to attempt 'mechanical' repairs....a mate ran a computer store...and he gave me the duds/returns to see if I could revive them.....the average was about 3 out of 12 just needed a clean and 'oil'....;p

If you look at them closely it's a wonder they ever work at all....they really are junky....and I can remember just how much the very first PC CD-Roms actually were.

Thankfully their price now matches their quality...;p
