How much of his kingdom does a channeler control?

Is the channeler a complete authoritarian dictator, who controls every last cent of ever last peasant?  Or do his citizens have some degree of personal autonomy?  I ask this because there has been reference made to wandering heroes or private adventurers roaming about, and I was curious where exactly they come from (if every channeler controls everything that every citizen does, then do they only come from neutral cities?)  Certainly, I hope they don't just spawn out of the blue.  And if they do in fact arise from a channeler's city, might they sometimes voluntarily come to a city's aid within which they reside?

you give some interesting questions. the first part can be stated simply "any body of government can be, generally speaky, either a monarchy (ruled by the one), oligarchy (ruled by the few), or a democracy (ruled by the many)." quite simply your kingdom could follow any of these three forms of government with your channeler as the leader. the second half, i personally think having heroes with a place origin can sort give a game more depth...

think about it; Hero A was born and raised in Town A but now lives in Town B. the two towns are at war with one another and depending on the Hero's own moral alignment or level of loyalty to his homeland would either prompt to fight against Town B or turn Benidict Arnold.

Personally I think this gives rise to an interesting question about the origin of heroes.  I think the answer to that question is, "anywhere."  Heroes should come out of cities or villages or farms or whatever, and their origins should influence how they act, who they like, and what their goals are.

i agree, Iwarmonger. a hero from the sticks (if you will) would act totally different than a hero born in the slums of some major metropolitan.

Please pardon the possible threadjacking, but your post makes me wonder when we will see the champion code active in a build. My guess from the wording of the current schedule is that we'll see it before beta 2, but it could be as early as 1a, part of the dynasty system implementation in 1e, or as late as the quest implementation at the end of Beta 1, 1g.
