Windows 7 : shortcuts impossible on some softwares

located in \System32\

Hi,

I've just move to Win7 x64 Ultimate (legit-MSDN) from Vista x32 Home (legit).

All my 100+ programs are running without any problem, it's surprising, but true. The worst bad news for me is : no more WinMail, WinCal, MovieMaker, all removed and replaced by poor Live things.

Now, I've reinstalled OD+ and tried to add some specifics shortcuts : Virtual PC (wmwindows.exe), SnippingTool (snippingtool.exe), StickyNote (stikynot.exe) all located in \System32\

I can see these executables into the Explorer. But the icons created by OD+ don't run : «Windows doesn't find 'C:\Windows\System32\StikyNot.exe'. Verify that you entered the right name, then retry.». But directory is fine.

More stange : if I try to add manually the shortcut (no drag&drop), the "OpenFile" dialog doesn't show these .exe !!! Into Windows Explorer I see them, into OD+'s OpenFile dialog, not.

Any idea to solve that ?

David

I'm noy using Windows7 x64 and I'm really taking a guess here so sorry if I'm off base. Never using x64 I would think the windows folder would be system 64 and you are looking for it in System 32. Maybe the x64 has a System 32 folder in it but thought I would mention it as it could be you have used the System 32 for so long you may be just using the wrong folder for your directory. If my thinking is wrong than I have learned something.

Yeah, I can add a shortcut on the desktop or pin it to the Start menu and it works fine, but drag it to ObjectDock and it doesn't work. I'm also using Win7 64. Never tried it on 32 bit.

Best guess is that it is a permissions issue. what are your UAC settings??

You are right about this issue. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 too. Here's the solution: Copy the utilities somewhere else (outside of C:\Windows\System32) and then drag them to ObjectDock :D

@swampthing: No, it is not a permission issue.

object dock   is confusing with the program files 32 and 64 bits

verify the right location of the program

(inside x86  our program files)

Hi All,

It's working  with StikyNot.exe, wmwindow.exe+VMCPropertyHandler.dll .

Still an error with Snippingtool.exe, but I will scan :borg:  the dependancies to find Dlls to move with.

Thanks for the trick,

David

Snippingtool worked fine for me also. I just copied them all into the Program Files folder and then dragged them to OD.

Snippingtool returns me a dialobox error with no message or title.

Just an empty error box o_O

I tried to move Snippingtool.exe in some directories, same result.
