Huge Skinning Issue

Vista Aero, Change the skin, goes to Classic?

Hey people,

I hope this is the right place to post this. Otherwise, please direct my directionally-challenged a** to the right place.

To start with, I just got WindowBlinds, and its cool as can be. Alas, I have an issue.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit. When I installed it, it had Aero (like it should), but had no ability to do the transparency things like the settings suggested it could. I've tried other skins thru other programs, but to no avail. No transparency. Now, I could care less for the transparency. My problem is when I use any skin thru Blinds, it sets my theme to Classic, and I have no godly idea why!

Anyone with insight???

Thanks a heap!

Are you using the trial and if so, have you used it past the 30 day trial period? The trial starts reverting to Windows classic mode after it expires. I may be wrong but I also believe that transparency is disabled in the trial.

If this is the case, consider buying the program as it's well worth the cost.

Also, before uninstalling the trial, be sure to set your desktop back to Aero in Window Blinds prior to an uninstall.

I bought the full version. Like i said, its got to do with the OS, it'll do the same thing with the other skins too. Mind you, after patching some files, a few skins work, but I want to get Blinds to work. and also, its not the transparency Im worried about, its the fact that every time I apply a skin, it puts my theme to Classic.

Also, it would be very helpful if you went to the system info tab in Window Blinds, hit the copy text button and then paste that info into a reply here.

What files might you have patched?

MIne has been doing that the past couple of days, mostly with the taskbar. Don't know why. I reboot and it stops.

Your graphics score is low, your card should do better - do you have up to date drivers ?

SDC is replaced by Impulse so install that and update windowblinds from there http://www.impulsedriven.com/ and activate windowblinds after that, your files are prehistoric.

You do not have transparancy due to your windows experiance score is below 2.

Your version of Windowblinds is way out of date and not activated. The activation part is the reason it's not skinning.

You need to download Impulse and install it. When installing Impulse, sign in with the email address you purchased Windowblinds with and once you sign on, you can download the latest version of Windowblinds and it will activate for you through Impulse.

Your user profile here at Wincustomize shows you to be a Visitor and not a Current customer. You should contact support and have them link your user account to the email address that you purchased WindowBlinds with so you can download skins here.

This was bought from Stardock? How come the files show a 2007 date? Why aren't you listed as a customer?

This is a major prehistoric copy. Install the proper drivers, Reboot. Install Impulse, and reboot. Then update WB through Impulse. SDC no longer updates WB and other SD software. Yje update platform is Impulse.

You never did answer the question about which files you "patched".

Thanks Ausvet, that might explain it. I also just went thru a hardcore upgrade with my computer, which didn't have any drivers for it. I got all my drivers off HP's website, which are, obviously, ancient. Im guessing that would also be why I don't have the transparency abilities as well?

To answer you Doc, I used VistaGlazz to patch the files in the Resources folder. It seemed to be what I had to do to get normal user-made themes to work, but I like the idea of Blinds. And this computer came from a friend of mine, it was on a backup CD he gave me to go with it. He has no intelligence when it comes to fixing computers (crashed it with a nude site virus, just a simple clean install disk fixed it...free laptop =D) so idk if he bought it or what

Well, Doc wasn't too far off, you are running what appears to be an unlicenced copy.

You should uninstall it and buy a legit copy. It's well worth the cost.

I suggest you uninstall WB using Revo Uninstaller.

If you like the idea of WB, buy a subscription to the software. Make sure your system will support it.

Then after purchase install WB through Impulse.

From what I've read about VistaGlazz, it is a program for XP to simulate Vista. You wrote you have Vista Ultimate 32 bit. You shouldn't need it.

Check your Drivers and your Graphics card. They may be 'old' as well, and not able to support Vista Ultimate.

At anyrate, The WB on the CD isn't "yours" and you'll need to purchase WB subscription to get the updated program. First make sure your graphics card can support your OS, though.

This does not work well with WindowBlinds, and may be the cause of any issues.

When I got My laptop with vista 32, it had only 1gig of ram, I had to up it to 2gigs to support aero, how much ram do You have??? that might have something to do with it.

I think the biggest issue was the fact that he was running a hacked version.
